Good morning from a warm, clear Bristol.
I didn’t sleep very well due to the heat. I find this heat very debilitating.
Yesterday was quiet, I sewed and pottered. As Specsavers is on the bus route to DD’s where I was dining, I popped in and ordered two pairs; one regular, one sunglasses. They had a “twofer” so it wasn’t too expensive.
I was melting b6 the time I got to DD’s as I have a 15 minute walk, uphill, to get to her. She wasn’t working for a change, so had a bit of a chat. It’s always difficult as so many topics annoy her or I get told off for saying something - I then retire very hurt and add it to the forbidden topic list. I don’t think she even realises what she’s doing/saying.
Iris was hot and cross and even more difficult with her meals. She is always asked what she wants to eat, then doesn’t and needs then to be cajoled into consuming something. Her father gets very annoyed. (Me too, but - another forbidden topic!)
Today, I have been invited by one of my FAB/church members to join her, her DD and a friend to go and see the “Wind in the Willows” sculpture walk. She has told me where it is, but apart from starting with “wood” , being NT and 1 hour from Bristol, I have completely forgotten what is! 😄
I hope all, those unwell are feeling better, keep cool, be happy, have a good start to the weekend. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩

Good morning from Malta where we expect sunshine and 37°C, it has been the same all week but is rising next week to over 40°C.

Had a lovely morning with DD3. Before we did our shopping she was hungry so stopped for breakfast, I just had coffee as I never feel hungry before around 1pm.

The boys were at summer school so it was nice having DD3 to myself. They go three times a week. Before she had the boys DD3 used to teach summer school as well but it’s too much now and she needs a break.

I had DGS1 after school as his brother had a hospital appointments. They had been on an outing to the aquarium which is one of DGS1’s favourite places so he was very happy. He had a new dinosaur book tucked under his arm, I’m still learning so much about them!😄

This morning I have got DGS2 whilst his brother goes to occupational therapy. He loves going and has benefitted a lot from the sessions.

Sorry to read of your saga with the jars grandMattie plus you’re having to tread on eggshells around your family. My DD2, though lovely, is also quite touchy so I know the feeling of having to zip it!

I’ve got my nails after DGS2 gets picked up. I think they will be plain today as I had to change my appointment and the only space she had is not long enough for nail art, I shall miss my candy stripes and cherries! I get attached to them.😂

Hope all went well yesterday RosesandLilac, I was thinking about you and hoping you have a date for your op.🤞

I shall be watching tennis later. Expect to hear some very bad language if Djokovic and/or Zverev win!🤬

Take care all and stay safe in the heat.☀️

Good morning from s somerset

I had a nice quiet day yesterday and ended up with two finished sewing projects, both made as toiles and from surprise fabrics from think pink sewing box subs, years ago again because I didn`t know what to make from them

One was Atelier Jupe Charlie jumper, I finished it, tried it on and appreciated that I am neither tall not thin so I took the hem band off, reduced the length of the top and made a longer hem band, it is very comfy now and the pattern is a keeper. I especially love the 3/4 gathered sleeves and neat neckband which now skims the top of my hips

Second top is Seychelles by Itch to stitch, that was a really nice and easy sew from a pack I made, there are charming pleats of top of the sleeves. Last autumn I did prepare some sewing packs ready for winter sewing, in case I was snowed in but it did not happen. I had even interfaced facings and altered and pinned darts for the packs. That sewing pattern is a keeper too

I had to have something to do other than sitting, sewing enabled me to stand and move a lot and I did a lot of steps plus up and down stairs often

Today is all about remaining cool and healthy I have prepped the house but made no plans for things to do, I have choices and may end up coming downstairs to a cooler space and perhaps knitting or maybe pottering in the kitchen

Survival mode is fully operational and I will never complain about winter

Good morning from Sheffield,

I was awake at 4, excited about my weekend away. I have a two-hour drive ahead of me. My friend and I will set off at 7.
I wanted to wash my hair before I go, and I didn’t want to be rushed.
It’s going to be so hot. I am a bit worried about our hotel room. It’s very small and is a bit stuffy. It’s just a room in a pub. We may have to sleep with the door propped open. The door opens onto a small terrace and car park. If anyone wants to have a go at these two old ladies, then good luck to them😁

Daughters and eggshells GM, I feel your pain.
Take care everyone flowers

Good morning from the Essex coast.
Hot, hot , hot is the forecast for today, again.
We are going away on the boat for a week. Today we are going to Burnham on Crouch for the weekend and then Monday we are crossing the Thames to the River Medway for a few days. There are numerous other boats going as well so should be a very sociable week.
Enjoy the day everyone and take care in the sun. Best wishes to all xx

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from an already warm South Yorkshire. The morning bout of sneezing is in full flow!

Yesterday I retreated to the woods with the walking group. It was lovely in the leafy shade, but a longish walk and our walk leader takes no prisoners. By the time we’d done the circuit we were all “glowing”🥵 and glad of a sit down and a coffee. I had my usual lunch at DDs and then came home to do some much needed housework. For the first time in as long as I can remember, I dragged out the hose and gave the garden a good soaking. The plants look suitably grateful this morning. I hope we get some rain soon but there’s none in the forecast for next week again! I sat out late with a gin and tonic, listening to the radio.

Today is school volunteering; the last but one session before the long holiday. Only a short session today though.

Have the best day you can, folks.

RosesandLilac Fri 10-Jul-26 06:09:45

Good morning! It’s sunny already here in south Glos and I have had the grand total of 2 hours sleep so feeling bleurgh….
I think your walk is at Woodchester grandMattie, near Stroud? It’s a fascinating abandoned mansion, I’ve been there several times and i love it there; I hope you enjoy it too, it’s very atmospheric.
Well, yesterday’s appointment was to meet the surgeon, not a pre-op. She explained everything in detail and showed me my scans, very interesting. I will need to get to BRI for my pre-op and then surgery which will be mid August so I finally have some sort of timescale. I have to admit it sounds scary now I have heard the full details.
She was very nice and reassuring but says I need to be prepared to be unable to do much at all for several weeks and to expect to take analgesia for up to 3 months.
So, that’s sorted!
DH is off kayaking, he was banging around until the early hours getting his stuff out of the attic etc, I just couldn’t sleep at all.
A very quiet day for me, hopefully with a nap sometime.
Housework and laundry needs doing, I’ll get going shortly.
Take care everyone, send hugs to those needing one x
🌹

It must be lovely to have your treasures singly occasionally, bellas. And your nails! What a shame. I look forwards to seeing the newest lot. No tennis racquets then?
Hope you feel better, madeleine, and that all went well yesterday r&l, and things are going forwards. ❤️

grandMattie Fri 10-Jul-26 06:11:57

Youyright, r&l, I think it IS Woodchester. I’ll let you know tomorrow.

RosesandLilac Fri 10-Jul-26 06:12:58

I’m another with eggshells and my DD. She’s pretty much not spoken to either of us now for well over a year, just the occasional text 🤷🏼‍♀️ We have absolutely no idea what we’re supposed to have done grandMattie

Good morning all from Glasgow, where a temp of 26°C is anticipated.

I eventually fell asleep at 3am, then woke again at 5am, in unbearable pain.
DH has brought a heat pack for me, rock and a hard place springs to mind; Either die from the heatstroke or try and bear the pain.🤣
To add to my woes, there is a burning itch across my chest area, which is driving me mad.
My GP says it is all part of the infection in my body manifesting it.
One bonus is that I may lose weight, the antibiotics are playing havoc with my stomach.😉

I need to visit the surgery again this morning, then apart from making salmon fishcakes for tea, it will be a quiet day.
It is a family favourite and my children have all requested a share. I will be at it all day!!

GM, I feel your pain. DS1 is extremely prickly, I often avoid engaging.😪 It's easier that way.
Surprisingly, he asked after my health yesterday, I must be at death's door.😉

Harrigran, Anstruther will be a glorious place to be, unless the haar comes in, one of my favourite places to holiday. We always stay in a cottage in Cellardyke, overlooking the sea.💚

I hope Dragonfly is OK. 💐

Wishing you all, a pleasant day and my thoughts are with our mountaineers.
