just thinking the other day how much loo rolls have changed! I have heard often of the cut up newspaper for loo roll i am guessing the print did not come off as much!
Then the wonderful Izla paper. There was a disinfectant made and the inventor realised that workers who got this liquid on them made any cuts etc heal up quicker. so it was decided to try it on paper for toilets and marketed as hygienic! personally I thought it was awful you could never clean yourself properly with it. i used to get told off by gran for using it for tracing paper!
i do remember you could get Izal in sheets that fitted into a china holder on the wall. i am imaging the china holder which was very heavy got smashed a lot as they were so fiddly to take on and off to renew.
I also remember in the 1970s Andrex did a big thing for coloured loo paper to match your decor! they all got in on it i remember you could get cleaning powder probably Ajax in little containers coloured to match your decor with a fancy quilted pattern
worse of all was pink loo paper in the hospital. it was an awful pink no idea why and as rough as sandpaper it was lovely to use after childbirth certainly brought tears to my eyes! i felt sorry for anyone having surgery for piles having to use that after!!
now it is recyclable eco paper i wonder what the next phase will be
