Out To Lunch

I love lunching out, or even “brunching”.

I do prefer weekdays, but then on a Sunday, nothing beats a cracking roast which has been cooked by yourself and with no washing up!

We often go out for Sunday lunch (not in high summer) however, we pick restaurants and or nice pubs which have traditional roasts on the menu.

We eat late at home so look for venues which offer a later booking, no earlier than 5pm.

I love all cuisines, but for some reason I like a tradition roast on a Sunday as soon as the BBQ season is over.

Yes, we often do. No preparation or clearing up is a big draw. The only downside is that after a big lunch I’m done for the rest of the day

I used to love to do that but not when my H was still here, home made Sunday roast was a must in this house.
Then after he died, my GD and often one of her friends , found two upmarket pubs where the roast dinners were excellent and we would really enjoy.
However now my appetite has shrunk and it is a waste of food and money for me, I do miss it though.

We are not fans of "Sunday" lunch out, I have never had one that the prefer to my own not sure why as I love going out for a meal we usually go mid week .

I dont enjoy weekend meals out its always too busy for my liking I'd prefer weekdays

We often lunch out during the week. If a family lunch it’s often on a Sunday, in fact just off to have lunch with DS and family.
A good friend and I sometimes go to theatre or film matinees, always preceded by lunch.

We went to a local large garden centre this week to buy bulbs. We arrived at about 12 pm but could not find an empty parking space and had to park at the furthest spot. Wondering what special event was happening we made our way in to see the restaurant full of white haired diners. Apparently it is like this on all weekdays. Meals look reasonable, not exciting but save people cooking. I think I would be happy too if I could persuade my OH who hates eating out as he is so fussy.

I take mt granddaughter out in the morning after shopping to the Beach hut, we have drink,coffee and drinking chocolate and cake then I drop her home ,but we have Sunday dinner at home,

I used to tell my late DH that it was ‘the grey pound’ that kept most garden centre type cafes going.
After Covid, he started to come with me for a lunch once a week at an independent outside Durham and was absolutely amazed at how busy the restaurant was and had to agree with my observations.

I'm happy to eat out anytime, thank you!

I work on that old premise of knowing when you're a proper grown up when you realise you've got to think of something to have for dinner EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE

Sunday lunches out are usually with family, 2/3 times a year, we went a few weeks ago, Indian buffet, lovely.
Friends we meet up with for a roast out on Sunday’s, tends to be in the cooler months, next one December, they were here for lunch last month.
If it’s just us two we go out on a weekday for dinner, not lunch.

My Sunday lunch is no different to any other day I just do what I fancy and what comes to hand. For instance today’s Sunday lunch was my left over Chinese takeaway from last night 🤣 I am not conventional at all in the way of food whatever is available and quickest is my dinner

Our local does the most fantastic Sunday lunch. Only 3 items. Beef, Chiken or Pork. Yorkshires, roast potatoes. 3 green vegetables and carrots. Plus a choice of 4 puddings. You have to book early.

I usually book a table for lunch at the weekend if DS is coming down. One pub in the village serves an excellent Sunday
lunch; the other has a huge menu of amazing “proper” pies (he’s very much a pie man!). I agree that garden centres these days seem to make more money from food and gift sundries than anything else. We have three near us. The last one held out as long as it could before it, too, opened a gift shop and a cafeteria serving hot food.
DH and I always liked a pub lunch if we were out walking - I preferred to eat after we had walked; he, halfway round, but that did slow us down quite a lot😊!

It was Shincliffe with late DH, but I was at Lanchester yesterday with DD2 and family. He loves Potters World there.

We have a couple of old pubs we've been to for Sunday lunch, lovely gardens in the summer for dining outside, one with a duck pond. In the winter indoor cosy ambience. We're more mid week diner outers, than Sunday. Sometimes with family on Sundays or friends in the week.

It's nice to take your mum out for lunch Oreo, I have a lot of memories of doing that with my mum. Summertime outside, a favourite of hers was a pub overlooking Cuckmere Haven spectacular views, or a nearby to her, very old village of Alfriston all timber beamed and very, very old pubs. Also good for afternoon teas.

We have no special day on which we eat out. It depends what we fancy., and if a table can be booked. This week we’ve eaten out on Wednesday and Monday. Next week it will be Wednesday again, because we are in London at theatre.

terribull we’ve eaten at those pubs. We used to like The Bull but it isn’t so good now I think. We tried The Ram at Firle one hot day - not bad.

Restaurants do change.
