Christmas shopping magazines and colour supplements etc

I bin it all without looking at it. The worst offender is WI magazine-the wrapper is full of ads for things I would never even consider buying. TBH I rarely even open the thing now- I just bin the whole lot.I must look into if I can opt out of receiving it.

No, I am staggered at the prices of clothes advertised in colour mags and supplements and have never been remotely tempted by anything I have seen recently - particularly as I couldn't afford the items.

Nor am I tempted by the catalogues from, from, for example, Boden and White Stuff, which come through my door as I cannot afford them either.

I have bought nothing advertised in magazines or online and avoided Black Friday completely.

Having said that, I like to dress 'high end' and buy quality clothes in sales.

No, I’ve never bought anything from them. They go straight in the recycling. I had a huge pile delivered y the postman this morning. It’s not just the newspapers.

I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything advertised in the leaflets etc enclosed in magazines. In fact these ‘falling out things’ really annoy me, especially when they fall out all along the aisle of the shop on the way to the till! The latest issue of Saga magazine that was delivered contained 13 different leaflets for charities asking for donations , almost persuaded me to cancel my subscription!

Mischief.I have no objection to the leaflets that come with the post. I have on many occasions found a bargain.Is it so difficult to put them out for recycling? even my local council, as I am sure do others, give ' reusable' bags to place them in.

I don't watch adverts on telly, all leaflets and advertising material that arrives in my letterbox goes straight in the recycling bin, if im buying a magazine in a shop, all loose material is left n the shop. If I want or require anything I tend to look on he internet first, if I can't find it here I get my daughter to have a look, she is very internet aware. All that paper is a waste of resources and money.

Although I'd prefer them not to be in my newspapers, I do leaf through them before discarding. Don't think I've ever bought anything directly but do admit to having received mental stimulation as to a prospective gift idea. I then resort to good old search engine et voila.

MOnica. A leaflet advertising Iceland's xmas food, Tesco have a magazine advertising their xmas 'goodies'as do other supermarkets, is seasonal and does not in anyway give Iceland's full potential. Have you ever visited their website ?Give it a try.

I give friends a magazine subscription for Christmas presents.
But the mad prices of ideas and fashions made me change from country Living etc to Essentials which had much more realistic prices ... friends prefer it.

They go straight into recycling. I wish the post office would stop delivering them. I don't want them. I have even put my name on a list at the delivery office for those who don't want them delivering, but they still do.

I can’t tell you how much I love this website. The sheer common sense and wisdom of the contributors is manna from heaven. I say this after trying mumsnet. I was so aghast at some of the comments and posts especially regarding relationships .... I can see why the divorce rate is so high. Sometimes it seems there is a correlation between age and wisdom. Or the further back we can look down the road, the further forward we are able to see the rod ahead!

I find the prices for clothes in magazines absolutely staggering; I am sure there are some GNs out there who can afford £2,500 for a skirt and £800 plus for a pussy bow blouse, but the majority must be as open mouthed as I am when seeing the cost. I bought a mascara a few years ago that was recommended in one magazine and pretty marvellous it is too, so I'll pass that on. L'Oreal Million Lashes - it really is lovely.

Most of the companies and charities I have had dealings with send me numerous emails throughout the year. Why then do they waste paper and money sending Christmas
catalogues by post to clutter up my recycling box?

Several mag-type booklets/leaflets came with our Sunday paper yesterday (as usual) - some of them Christmas related.

When a Swedish friend was once staying, she said, 'Oh, what are all these falling-out things?' on finding the usual 'crop' in the Sunday Times. We love that expression and still use it.

I did once use a Christmas gift guide when living in a country where we it could be very hard to find basics. It was v useful then to be able to order smoked salmon or daffodils for family back home. I've hardly ever used them since though.

Its recycling bin collections day and mine seems to be full of these blessed supplements.

There was an Iceland leaflet in yesterday's paper and as a result of the advert fuss. I did look inside. Almost everything on sale had nuts, salmon or sesame in them. No such allergens are allowed past my front door, and to be absolutely honest the all the food, piled up and photographed in high colour looked truly revolting.

Funnily enough I was looking at one this morning. Ridiculous ideas that I wouldn't buy for anyone and ridiculous prices to match.

The ones I get go straight in the bin. No wonder my recycling bin is always full.

I did once buy a vase for DD that was featured in a Good Housekeeping article. She was very pleased with it. Think that's the only time though. These days I seem to get ideas more from the internet.
