Out of the pure goodness of my heart I am starting this thread for people who don't like the C-word, or who don't want any mention of it until much later, so they can enjoy being disgruntled together, and not have to venture on to the 'gruntled' threads and be accused of being grumpy old killjoys.

Not really started buying for the dreaded c word, each to their own of course I’m not a lover of loads of decs plastic this n that, but nor am I a misery guts, I do feel that Xmas is for the children I love to see their faces all happy opening their presents, I’m just not liking all the ads on buy this buy that, I do send cards but I have noticed we get less n less each year, don’t think so many ppl are really into it,

Bloody hate it, sodding waste of time and money. Would love to go away and miss it every year but regrettably my wife loves it.

Craftycat Thu 17-Oct-19 10:40:23

Hear Hear- I do NOT want to think about it until Dec 1st.
Then I will get enthusiastic. Plenty of time!

Thank you! I actually hate the whole thing. It’s only saved by seeing my daughters. And the shops! Someone already took her child to a Christmas ‘fayre’. It was the 9th October. Look out for all the ‘gifts’ - wasteful ‘stuff’ no one really wants or needs complete with tinsel and music for the next 90 days. All for one single day which is meant to be a religious holiday to begin with. Aaahhhh. Rant over. Thank you for the opportunity.

Oddly enough, I don't think that the USA will be all about the C word, as yet, though there may be some of it about. At the moment the big promotions will be all about Halloween (the "H" word for me - I hate it!) then it will Thanksgiving (this takes place towards the end of Nov). Then the C word....!

An anti-Christmas poem for Gransnetters

Twas the night before Christmas
I’d spent all my lolly
I’d looked at the bank account
And felt far from jolly

Tomorrow my Mad Auntie Martha is due
She never stops drinking and using the loo
She must visit at least 40 times in a day
Not helped by the gin she keeps putting away

And Uncle Horatio, my what vexation
Will tell us in detail of his operation
And as for the kids, well I blame the mother
For not having foresight at birth, them to smother

They screech and they yell from morning to night
They chase the poor cat - after having a fight
During which my best vase came a cropper last year
And Tom? He’ll get legless on Dad’s stash of beer

You can bet that the turkey once more will be dry
The Yorkshires will burn and Granny will cry
The gravy is lumpy and sprouts give you gas
And as for the stuffing – I think I shall pass.

There are folks singing carols from
Wick down to Dover
But frankly my dear, I’ll be glad when it's over.

One of my daughters is getting divorced and the children will be spending time with the unfaithful idiot. We are opting out and going to India for three weeks over Christmas and New Year. We'll wish them a happy Christmas from the side of the swimming pool.

Sara65 Thu 17-Oct-19 07:34:50

Since the children have all grown up, Christmas certainly doesn’t hold much appeal for me. I spend far too much money, my husband keeps threatening to take over Christmas, and each child would have one decent present, and that would be that! I see his point.

I find the whole whose going where thing, a headache, because we don’t care, we have never put anybody under any pressure, we had enough of that with our own parents.

So many things I don’t like, so I try very hard to concentrate on the things I do like.

I love decorating the house (inside only) and I love decorating the trees with my grandchildren.
I love the school nativities, and carol services on the television.
I love some of the Christmas events, like Christmas at Kew.
And I love to please my children and grandchildren.

But I will still be immensely relieved when it’s all over.

rosecarmel Wed 16-Oct-19 23:14:38

and not hand haha .. smile

rosecarmel Wed 16-Oct-19 23:13:27

My husband wasn't a fan (so he said ..) but he loved the lights, the food and giving gifts to the kids- Loathed holiday music-I got him a wind spinner, it was a metal disc that had Bah painted on one side and Humbug on the other hand he loved it- smile

Gonegirl Wed 16-Oct-19 20:26:40

It's too early for any of it.

Gonegirl Wed 16-Oct-19 20:25:33

Littleannie I haven't read the other thread but I thought your final line on your post 14:51:21 was really funny. (Sorry Witzend ( I don't know the ins and outs of it))

MissAdventure Wed 16-Oct-19 20:03:53

I'm very sorry to hear that, LittleAnnie.
Christmas is very hard when someone is missing, isn't it?

It feels like salt in a fresh wound. flowers

Littleannie Wed 16-Oct-19 19:38:57

Thank you for speaking up in my favour grapefruitpip. I'm glad I'm not alone. Well, having lost so many of my family this year, I nearly am.

Oopsminty Wed 16-Oct-19 18:52:36

Ooh I've had a Mince Pie today! Lattice. Would have been better with cream but the fridge was bare. Of cream.

MissAdventure Wed 16-Oct-19 18:48:10

I like mince pies.
I'm eating two one as we speak.

SirChenjin Wed 16-Oct-19 18:38:28

I’ve found my people! I don’t like Christmas one bit - I want to like it, I try to like it, but every year I feel the same about this expensive, over commercialised shop-fest during the miserable days of winter that brings on my SAD. The only bit I do like is the Christmas lights.

grapefruitpip Wed 16-Oct-19 18:22:43

But why would you, clearly a fan of that particular time of year, start this up and use the word " disgruntled"

Many people are not disgruntled, they are sad, they suffer from SAD, they do not wish to partake in the festivities.

There is a considerable waiting list for some placements for volunteering at Christmas. There is a well documented spike in suicide post Christmas and Relate report many more people seeking help after Christmas.

Each to their own. I'm not a fan, that doesn't make me disgruntled.

Witzend Wed 16-Oct-19 18:07:08

It wasn't nasty sniping, Grapefruitpip - merely a lighthearted, OK, rather tongue in cheek thread, for people who would evidently like an outlet for anti-C-word sentiments. I say 'evidently' because it's been evident on pro-C-word threads.

I'm sorry if Annie or anyone else took it as nasty.

Oldandverygrey Wed 16-Oct-19 18:06:50

Some of us may go back to being selfish morons on the 27th but not all of us grapefruitpip.

grapefruitpip Wed 16-Oct-19 18:06:42

that is extremely impressive indeed Miss A.

MissAdventure Wed 16-Oct-19 17:56:10

grapefruitpip
I'm a year round selfish moron. grin

MissAdventure Wed 16-Oct-19 17:50:03

I don't like Christmas anymore.
I used to, when my daughter was little, though I never went overboard.
Now though, its all such an effort.
