Yorkshire pudding or no Yorkshire pudding?

I'm a southerner.
You may just have something there about it being regional.

I’m from the North, and wouldn’t serve Yorkshires with any meat other than beef, but DH and all relatives from the South demand them with every roast meal, including Christmas Dinner.Weird Southerners eh? ?

I do know people who have the 'wrong' sauces with their dinners, (even tomato ketchup on roasts! ) but I do stick to the traditional ones.

Definitely have Yorkshire’s with our Christmas dinner I’m in the south.

I don't serve horseradish with roast chicken or apple sauce with lamb.

I would get bored with yorkies if I had them with every roast.

Thinking back, when my Yorkshire grandma used to make Yorkshire puddings to go with chicken or turkey, she always made onion gravy. In fact, unless my memory is playing tricks, I think she used to make onion Yorkshire puddings too when serving poultry.

Oh yes - Yorkshire puddings every time with every roast - even Christmas - there would be a riot here if they were missing. If someone doesn't want one (popovers) then don't have one - little ones at the table will happily eat one of those with gravy even if they turn their little noses up to everything else on offer. I do make my own though - often prior to the day and freeze them then reheat on the day - easy peasy. It''s all down to my father, he was from Lincolnshire and loved his Yorkshire pudding!

If it's a meat that is served with gravy, it's a meat that Yorkshire puddings will go with!

Never with poultry. We tend not to have roast beef these days (we can’t agree how best it should be served, so I’ve given up on it!), but I always serve them with roast lamb or pork. And I’m ashamed, as a Yorkshire lass, to admit that I do not make my own!?

Southerners here and we have Yorkers with every roast meat except gammon !! Wouldn’t be the same without it ?

I'm southern (though living in the north) and we never had Yorkshire puddings with Christmas dinner. Wouldn't have dreamt of it.

It's probably just a tradition in her family. It maybe started at some time when funds were short and the meal needed supplementing, or when someone was fussy about what they ate and demanded them.

Incidentally, in our southern household, it was always one pudding made in a large dish and cut into pieces, and it was always referred to as batter pudding....

I’d have a riot on my hands if I didn’t deliver the Yorkshire’s, homemade, for Christmas lunch, but I do have lots of help with all the cooking, we are all southerners, apart from my lovely jordie son in law, he’d have chips as well as roasties for his lunch?if we let him.

I like anything with anything I only occasionally eat a bit of chicken but would have Yorkshire’s, horseradish or mint sauce and don’t see what the problem is Who writes such distinct rules??? And why ??? Who decides that I can only have Yorkshire’s with beef and why ??i don’t eat beef ???

In our house, Yorkshire pudding goes with any roast meat, not just beef. It has to be proper, home made though (with extra batter made and used to thicken the gravy!)
I am from Yorkshire, so I don't think you can put it down to the girlfriend being a southerner.

We didn't have Yorkshire puddings with anything other than beef. However, my father adored Mint Sauce so that was on the table with every roast dinner! Not sure if it is a southern thing - Pa was from London.
