sorted and ready for Christmas 2020

I shall be on my own at Christmas as usual. My turkey is a breast stuffed and rolled up with streaky bacon on the outside. Roast potatoes and sprouts.I don’t like Christmas pudding. Will watch old films.
Family all usually all go to my son’s 150 miles away. I can no longer travel. They usually come to see me the day after Boxing Day and take me out for a meal which is unlikely to happen this year. Have to be Zoom meeting.
Glad when it is all over and wonder if it will be my last.

In a bit of a quandary about Christmas. I usually like wandering around small high street shops, craft fairs etc for small items I collect over the summer for specific gifts but none of those outlets have been on my visit lists because of covid (can't stand shopping in a mask so don't do browsing anymore, and craft fairs etc just not happening anyway). So guess it will have to be rather impersonal online gifts this year, or bank transfers of cash. Not very festive, is it. Thanks covid.

Christmas lunch for the 2 of us is ordered from “Cook”...it usually feeds us for 3 meals with extra veggies. Have a couple of Christmas puds left from last year (I’m coeliac and can’t be bothered to make my own...) Bought a “free from” cake from M&S last week.
Had conversation with DHregarding cards....no idea about a round robin letter, what would one put in it? So people will be bored or enthralled with some of my photographs this year instead...

I am preparing for Christmas early this year, including my food shop. I can't begin to imagine how supermarkets will cope with the Christmas week food rush. I have visions of large queues round supermarket car parks in the cold and rain. Not for me thanks. I will buy more frozen stuff this year, including turkey, veg etc, where I'd normally buy fresh. Just will probably sacrifice fresh salad. Already started buying bits and I'm sure Christmas food will be in shops early this year. If, come the day, things are organised and not chaotic, then I've lost nothing.

I bought a bones turkey last year from Iceland half price and I have a large ham joint in freezer as well so we are sorted for that.
Have stopped sending cards and giving the money to charity instead as postage is so expensive.
My oldest grandchildren I send money and my DIL buys presents from us and I give them money for a meal out after christmas.
My youngest I have given them a weekend away in the past but not this year,
I have just been presented with 2 more very young grandchildren whom we have not met yet, so enjoying buying toys for them.
The rest will be just bits and pieces whilst shopping, I normally buy nice treats for the rest,

Well done you. I have Christmas Cards bought. I will start present buying for the grandmonsters once I have been given some ideas. I do have to worry about food my husband is undergoing assessment for a liver transplant and cannot manage to eat much anyway so neither of us like mince pies, Christmas pudding or Christmas cake although I am quite partial to stollen and chocolate.

Everything is always alright on the day but I do run around like a blue bottomed fly.
Nothing started yet, maybe I'll give it some thought on 24th December.

I did that one year - bought a turkey crown and then decided to buy one leg . Ever since then my daughter asks me if I'll be buying a build your own turkey for Christmas!

l have packed everything ready for moving, but, l have written all the cards with new address ready!

Have ordered small joints this year, turkey breast, ham and a super expensive joint of beef so if a miracle happens and we can all be together (8 of us) there will be plenty, but if as I suspect it will just be the 2 of us then it won’t be too much.

All I have done is buy a few small presents, which will no doubt have to be posted and put in my Ocado order which can be cancelled up to the day before.
I am hoping my DD and SiL will be able to make it up from London but if not it will be the 2 of us.

We get 3 real ones for reception rooms but have a fake one in the hall

I'm sure this will cause horror and upset to many on here but maybe it will just brighten life up.

A little bit

I made the cake in August, as I always do. The pudding will be made on Stir up Sunday. We have no idea who will be here on the day. My daughter lives in London, as does my son and his family. ATM they are Tier 2. Of course all that may change. I ordered a turkey crown which serves 9 so if there are just the three of us us currently at home, leftovers can be packaged up and frozen. I make my own stuffing and bread sauce so will know nearer the day how much to make. This year’s cake is only 6 inch diameter, but I have also made and frozen a chocolate cake for those who dislike dried fruit. I have enough cards and crackers bought in the Sales. I will have to think about the presents soon. Around half have to be posted to Australia and they are having fewer flights because of the pandemic.

I've got a fair bit bought ~ my brothers, nephews and nieces and the next generation are all around the country and are at "kindly remembrance from (Great) Aunt Ailidh" level. I buy for a couple of local friends.

Not started the food buying yet ~ it'll be me and the dog and I'm planning to make a big song and dance of it. Sod Covid ~ but in an obediently compliant manner

I’ve bought a couple of gifts online and I probably have enough cards but if not I’ll make some. I’m assuming for the time being that it will be just the two of us on the day so will add a few nice things to eat to my weekly shops in the run up.

It doesn't matter. What doesn't get eaten over Christmas will be portioned up and go in the freezer.

Last year we had turkey soup at Easter - and very nice it was too.

It will just be Mr P and I (as usual) and I know what we like food wise and can get it in dribs and drabs.

Picked up a sachet of Schwartz luxury bread sauce last week, cba to make it from scratch, and the Colmans one is like wallpaper paste!

Have decided that this year (fire the first time) will go for a turkey crown, no faffing about on Christmas morning, with trying to stuff the beast and wrap in foil etc.

However will be buying a couple of Turkey legs separately (Morrison's already have them on offer) as I use both light and dark meat in my cheats Turkey and ham pie!

How do you know how many to order for Monica? I'm hoping to have family staying, but presuming they won't be able to....
