Has anyone got their Xmas decs up yet? On Tv yesterday, people showing their houses already decorated. I will do mine 1st December but I can understand people wanting a bit of magic after this horrendous year. ?

With the awful year we have all had with Covid, and all the restrictions I am actually looking forward to decorating this Christmas. Normally I wouldn't start until 10 days before Christmas. But this year I have decided to start the 1st December. We won't be seeing any of our family this year, so to make it a cheery, festive time for the two of us decorating will commence early.

I still don`t like wreaths witzend, they remind me of death and funerals

Witzend Sun 25-Oct-20 09:26:48

My door wreath is never dried or artificial, craftyone - I usually get it at the local market - just with
fresh greenery to which I add a little something and a big red or tartan ribbon.
It doesn’t go on the door until at least 1st December though.

Very well spotted Nana3 and lemongrove.
That was my tree last year. Just teasing ...... ?

I am another, like hollysteers, who does not like wreaths on doors, don`t see the point of dried and artificial in a wreath. A few outside lights, oh yes and what a difference they will make to people`s mood this year. I have nothing planned for outside, trying to limit what I store all year around in my limited space

I have ordered a few new ornaments for my wooden scandi tree, this time they were expensive heirloom types in nice boxes. I shall soon be going through the big stack of old decs and ornaments, time for me to draw a line across. Tinsel, big fragile baubles, home made sequinned tree ornaments, candy canes, are all going to the charity shop.

I put fewer decorations up now than I used to, still love the tree though and the greenery from the garden.
Sorry to hear you won't be seeing your grandchildren nannyof4, sending you best wishes.

Nanny27 Sat 24-Oct-20 22:35:16

nannyof4 your post sounds sad. Why will you not out decorations up this year? Surely their cheerfulness ids for all ages not just for children

Nana3 Sat 24-Oct-20 21:25:08

A strange year though TheFrugalPiggy, we do what we can keep going.

Purpledaffodil Sat 24-Oct-20 21:19:58

Our children used to complain that we never put up Christmas decorations and tree until school had broken up whereas “Everyone else “ had theirs up for weeks before Christmas. In revenge DD now always puts hers up the first week in December. Think I might do the same this year for a bit of joyfulness. ?

TheFrugalPiggy Sat 24-Oct-20 21:17:42

I would never decorate before Armistice Day. It just wouldn't be right.

After reading all these comments it made me decide to go for it

Our hall tree is now in situ and it looks fabulous

Not much happening for Halloween here in tier 3 at the moment, maybe next week if it ever stops raining ?

lemongrove Sat 24-Oct-20 21:01:59

That’s a well dressed tree Puzzler....and I see you have your cards up already too?

Nana3 Sat 24-Oct-20 20:59:16

Lovely photograph of a Christmas Tree, I'm guessing it's from last year ☺

Hithere Sat 24-Oct-20 15:22:40

I recently went to a beach location and they already had the xmas decor all installed - we are talking first or second week of oct

Walking round our village it was lovely to see lots of pumpkins .
Whatever everyone’s view of Halloween it was cheerful. I don’t think I’d have felt cheerful to see Xmas decorations though.

LauraNorder Fri 23-Oct-20 09:50:02

polnan lovely that you are feeling a little tingle, go with it, be brave.

Puzzler61 Fri 23-Oct-20 08:58:59

Ohmother Fri 23-Oct-20 08:55:02

Goodness me!! Mary hasn’t even told Joseph she’s pregnant yet!!!

nannyof4 Thu 22-Oct-20 22:06:20

Cant say i am bothered about Christmas this year, its going to be so different due to the virus for everyone,so no wont be putting decs out as wont be seeing grandchildren.

Nana3 Thu 22-Oct-20 20:39:36

Hope I'm not repeating what has already been said but people in tier 3 like me might enjoy walking around the neighbourhood seeing Christmas lights. Anything to cheer us up.

hollysteers Thu 22-Oct-20 20:28:50

Decs, lights done for Advent. I have never liked wreaths on doors, they look more suitable for taking to the family grave ?. I can never understand why people are so anxious to take down their decs as soon as Xmas day is over, surely there are twelve days to the season?

SuzannahM Thu 22-Oct-20 20:27:29

Nope. They're Christmas decorations, not October, November or December decorations. But each to their own.

I love putting mine up, whether we have visitors or not. But they are up for Christmas and the New Year. Doesn't anyone else enjoy the anticipation of Christmas ? We wait until the week before Christmas, then we start decorating. Or are we just weird shock.

Namsnanny Thu 22-Oct-20 20:15:40

Twerly for me. Halloween, and Bonfire night first.

Cooking for Christmas is a given, but no decs until December.

cupcake1 Thu 22-Oct-20 20:12:45

Paperbackwriter
“FFS it's October! I put my tree up a couple days before Christmas and it comes down again on New Year's Day. That's quite enough!”

Spot on! Couldn’t agree with you more!!
