Xmas decs

The tree comes in and is decorated on the 21st december and that is also when the indoor decorations go up.

Outside, I put a decoration on the front door and some fairy lights on a bush or two before dark on the first Sunday in Advent.

I put them up as late as possible. Last year, as I was going to mychildren's houses and no one was coming here (officially) I decided not to put them up at all. I thought it was a relief, but I did regret it. This year I will be going to my 'bubble' but will still put them up at home.

Before anyone jumps to the wrong conclusion.....MawB has enjoyed a bit of colourful topiary in years gone by.

I always do mine on Dec 18th as that was what my parents did as their anniversary on that day. It makes me think of them.

MawB you may want to decorate/ hang lights on your bush earlier than usual, for a bit of Christmas Cheer.??

Usually about two weeks prior to Christmas, but I fully understand that this year people want a bit of light and glitter to cheer themselves up.
I decided ( on the same principle) last week, to order a pretty Autumn door wreath (Amazon) checked a few days ago and it’s due to arrive on Dec 2nd....apparently coming on a very slow boat from China.?
I may be thinking by then of hanging a Christmas door wreath.

Far from seeing Christmas lights in October cheering anybody up, I think they would depress those who are coming to the realisation that this year could be a very lonely and far from festive season.
We might have lost elderly relatives, or be unable to visit them in their care homes , our AC ‘s livelihood may have taken a massive hit - 2 of my highly qualified and successful DDs saw their entire career evaporate - or we may just be lonely and isolated.
No, for me over-early decs could just rub it in.
I can wait until a week before Christmas or even Christmas Eve to decide whether to celebrate or console myself with a good DVD.

I usually put my tree up in mid-December. But I was thinking of doing it earlier this year, as a sort of "two-fingered salute" to Covid! The virus can't stop me from doing that, at least!

My 4 year old Grandson says Santa can’t have whisky because he mustn’t drink and drive.

@Janern, I’m sure many families still put out mince pies and a tot for FC, and carrots for the reindeer - my Gdcs certainly do!
Though sad to say there seems to be a fashion now for ‘milk and cookies’ for FC - poor old thing, who on earth wants cold milk on a freezing December night? He needs something to warm him up a bit - I’m sure he gets more than enough milk and cookies in America anyway.

I will put a mini tree up on my fireplace a couple of other bits out that’s it, that will be Xmas eve, won’t be seeing anyone this Xmas so not bothering, will be putting the cards out as get them, and sending our usual amount to friends n distant family, it will be a strange Xmas this year!

Used to put them ip on the 18/12 as that is my son's birthday. He used to love his birthday presents and later in the day we put up the tree, he loved it. Now we put our real tree up about 9 days before Christmas.
For me, anything else is too early, and I think it takes the magic of Christmas away if decorations are up for too long.

I rely on one of my sons to climb into the attic to get the decorations down, but as he is not allowed to visit at the moment, there's no one to get them down for me.
Not worth all the trouble if no visitors allowed!

Nope not till December here. Whether it's early December or Christmas Eve depends on how busy we are.

2 weeks before Christmas, then down on the day after 12th night. I like to enjoy each festival in its turn, Halloween, Bonfire night, then Christmas. None too early or overlapping. I also detest hot cross buns in the shops before Easter, or mince pies before December.

Definitely not. Mine go up mid-December, sometimes later, and come down on 12th night.

Haven't been out to look, but I'm sure shops are already awash with decorations and cards and probably have been since August. I feel putting up decorations in November, sometimes even before Bonfire Night, takes away all the magic for children. I wonder how many families still leave a tot of whiskey for Father Christmas and mince-pies for the reindeer on Christmas Eve and have to make sure they are removed before the children come, leaving of course a few crumbs - reindeer are messy eaters!

Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year, but decorations no earlier than the week before Christmas to coincide with my birthday. cards displayed as and when they arrive and the whole lot packed away on New Year's Day.

My birthday is two weeks before Christmas. My Dad used to put up tge tree and the decorations for my party. It stayed up until 12th night.

I have carried on the tradition, my birthday and Christmas were always a magical time.

A week before Xmas I will bring my potted tree in from the garden and put a few lights and baubles on it, that will be enough!

Eek, no. Lovely new florist in town, so may get an advent wreath in due course. Tree will go up on 20 December.

That's a bit like my take on it JackyB. Gradually Advent and Christmas have merged into one.
My DH sings in St. James' Piccadilly and The Ritz several weeks before Christmas, but sadly this year that will not be the case.
