I know, a straw poll but just wondering how we all feel.
Several meet ups were planned but everyone has agreed may not be a great idea ! We have cancelled.
That said, I intend to still go to a pantomime on Sunday with DIL and DGD.

Attended a funeral today, a friend 58, around 150 attended, all wore masks in church packed like sardines so probably no protection at the wake afterwards nobody put the mask back on - nobody aged mid teens to 80+ paid any attention to advice or social distancing

I’m expecting a lot of illness in the run up to 25th

Scentia Fri 17-Dec-21 19:17:15

I won’t be going anywhere apart from my sons house and daughters house. Not because of Covid, I have no friends ?
We are cancelling our break from Boxing Day as we think everything will be closed.

Sweetpeasue Fri 17-Dec-21 19:37:37

The case are rising so steeply now, as predicted and I'm quite afraid for all of us and our NHS. Dh and myself intended to go to my sons on Christmas day where my other son and family will be joining on Boxing Day. I'm having second thoughts. Everyone will take lateral flow tests. They're not 100%acurate are they?
Ive had terrible cough for last couple of days with headache, that is leaving me exhausted. 2 negative lfts so guess its a very bad virus but it's scared me and I've just been for a PCR to make sure. I agree with the sentiments of a previous post in that we are all in this together and we're all scuppered if our NHS don't manage to hold it together for us. It's pretty bad now, as has been my experience of it this last week when 3 Dr's said I must call for an ambulance straight away in a repeat situation. Please get your vaccines, they're no guarantee you'll not catch it but they're our main weapon to get through this.

DS has now tested positive. That's 2 I our family out of our potential 6 hoping for Christmas day together. sad

TillyTrotter Fri 17-Dec-21 20:06:28

Such sad news on here this evening; viruses and Covid are rife.
There but for the grace of God go any of us.
I think many people will postpone their Christmas gathering with family at a date in the future after this long, miserable winter.
I hope you feel better very soon Sweetpeasue.
Aveline 2 of my family who are fully jabbed and booster’ed, planned to be with us at Christmas are currently awaiting results of PCR tests too. ☹️

Thankyou TillyTrotter

Yayy. A lot of us have been saying that for a while now. Throughout the last 18 months we have had contact with our two children and partners as they've both had babies and needed our help and support. We never hugged but more or less carried on as normal. My 87 year old parents had to come and stay too as Mum has vascular dementia. I cannot imagine just leaving them to ' get on with it'. If we'd not seen them for months and they'd died before we did I'd never forgive myself.

Aveline Fri 17-Dec-21 20:35:03

Tilly we're all double jabbed and boostered too. This virus still seems to have penetrated the defences.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 17-Dec-21 22:36:02

Hope the test is negative and you soon feel better sweetpeasue. With luck it’s one of these nasty colds that are around but best to be sure.

I visited my brother today. I will play Father Christmas tomorrow...younger grandchildren's presents. Won't stay. Will post eldest grandson's as he as covid. I have click and collect on Tuesday...enough to last a couple of weeks....must add more wine. Last year I was marooned on my narrow boat home for two weeks from Christmas Eve as water level was so high. I plan on being a hermit for a while...safer smile

I have bought 10 panto tickets as Christmas presents for all the family. Its in London and next Wednesday! 5adults and 5kids.
I have now bought a heavy duty mask and listening to the news for up dates. Am fully jabbed.
Will lose at lot of money if we don't go, will get refund if the panto has to cancel but thats awful for all the performers as Government so far has not put in any financial help.
Day at a time!

Not going anywhere unless it is outside. All of our friends feel the same just not worth the risk. Hoping to go to son’s on Christmas Day but there will only be four adults and we will all do lateral flow tests before. It is over the border so even that might change. We went to the cinema last week, there were only six people there (pensioners matinee!) so well distanced and all wore masks.

Cabbie21 Sat 18-Dec-21 09:31:41

Going out as little and as safely as possible, hoping to stay well particularly for Boxing Day when I am going to my daughter’s, and my son and all four grandchildren will be there.

Meanwhile, they are going to their other grandparents this weekend, and we are to have a visit today from my stepson and his family. DH has been so careful and yet he has agreed to this.( I don’t know why it didn’t happen outside in the summer.)They will be the first people in our house for almost two years. Naturally my daughter feels somewhat aggrieved. And I am not too happy either.

MiniMoon Sat 18-Dec-21 10:29:21

Been out. Last weekend was my birthday so we arranged a family get together at a local pub, with dinner and birthday cake. It was lovely to see everyone as I don't know when we will be able to do it again.
We are going out with friends between Christmas and New Year, to a new hotel that has opened locally. We are looking forward to it, as we are itching to see what it is like inside. It looks lovely from the outside as you drive past.

Thankyou*Germanshepherdsmum *
my test was negative thank goodness. Have never had a virus like this, there must be some very nasty ones out there. Such fear they can provoke too.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 18-Dec-21 11:02:03

Good news sweetpeasue. The colds doing the rounds now are truly horrible and long lasting and the symptoms are not unlike covid. I hope you’re able to rest up and recover and aren’t rushed off your feet with Christmas preparations.

CleoPanda Sat 18-Dec-21 11:51:59

If people are protecting themselves and others by wearing masks, sanitising, distancing, ventilating etc, how on earth are they catching colds? Baffling!

TillyTrotter Sat 18-Dec-21 12:19:56

Happy your test was negative Sweetpeasue.
Isn’t it great to get good news?
I hope you feel better soon. ?

Sweetpeasue Sat 18-Dec-21 14:39:38

So heartning to get kind words from others here. Especially in such times as these. Thankyou so much for caring.

JaneJudge Sat 18-Dec-21 14:43:48

My neighbours have covid.
My son has come home for Christmas but said St Pancras and his train was packed.
My parents and daughter will visit over Christmas but that is about as thrilling as it gets. I have to go into work Monday (was supposed to be off)

It is Covid regardless, one friends husband tested positive whereas she tested repeatedly negative, same symptoms same days. I simply dont believe they had separate illnesses.

The blue masks most of us wear are very little protection, they don’t fit properly they only stop direct breath, most leaks around the side.
Most people are not distancing, sanitizing or ventilating
Omicron spreads so easily every busy place you go to is going to be a source of infection.

Iam64 Sat 18-Dec-21 21:27:45

We took two grandchildren to a show last weekend. That’s the last crowded event for us. We met friends for a walk rather than the planned meal today
Still hoping to see family on Christmas Day but we all wonder whether that’s wise ?
