Put any lights or decor up yet?

Sara1954 Tue 22-Nov-22 17:07:06

No, but under pressure from my grandchildren, they’re going up on Saturday.
I pretend to be grumpy, but I’m quite looking forward to itc

No but I am testing the mince pies!

Next Sunday, 1st Sunday of Advent, I will put out my Advent wreath for the coffee table and some Advent candles in a tray will go on the kitchen table.
The other decorations will start to go up from the 10th Dec.
Also, the door wreath is being delivered first week in Dec I am reliably informed, so that will go up one day that week.

I'm just back from buying my wreath rings...and we are going to the lock up at 5.30 to get out the full size reindeer ( I know....but the house we left had a 100 ft drive and a herd of reindeer didn't look out of place) This year they will have to either go on the dining room roof or on the decking...either way they'll probably frighten the hell out of the sheep. There is an ongoing discussion about Christmas trees.. the previous house had a big enough sitting room for 2 trees..one traditional in red gold and green with candles and swags of breads and baubles made by the children at school and brownies etc...and what I called my contemporary tree...quite minimalist in silver and pale pink with delicate dragon flies and birds. We are wracking out brains as to where it's going to be possible to put even one of them in the cottage and I'm trying to be positive and think it's maybe best to downsize the trees to fit the home.... This time last year I was distraught at the thought of downsizing and here I am happy as a pig in clover in our 2 and a bit bedroom country home...and thus it will be the same with the Decs. Mind you DOH pointed out a 12in tree in Home Bargains...apparently the look he got was enough to warn him that a pithy retort was on its way.... He was correct....I can't remember exactly how I worded it but ... shove...and sun doesn't shine I'm sure were in there somewhere....

No, first week of December for me.

winterwhite Tue 22-Nov-22 16:19:10

I love other people's lights so I feel mean not contributing.
Weekend nearest the 10th is our time and we have an ornamental tree with silver lights in the front window. Main tree at the back of the house.
DH refuses to have outdoor lights, the meanie, and our front door is exposed to the elements so I do what I can with greenery + baubles and ribbon.

Blossoming Tue 22-Nov-22 16:06:06

Nope

Norah Tue 22-Nov-22 15:57:17

The garden lights were hung a few weeks ago - one million it seems. Interior lights to aboves are all accomplished, trees ordered for delivery as are advent wreaths. Wreath candles and tree lights bought. Done for now.

Namsnanny Tue 22-Nov-22 15:00:09

Started making the front door wreath. The greenery lasts for ever, so I can get a start on it.

That sounds like my cup of tea too Mollygo (bungalow)

Mollygo Tue 22-Nov-22 14:22:52

Not yet, probably early December.
I pass a bungalow on the way to work where they seem to have decoration themes for Halloween, Christmas and Easter. I love driving past there.

nadateturbe Tue 22-Nov-22 14:00:50

Mine go up when the spirit moves me. No set time. Could be Christmas eve or tomorrow. Maybe a lot of decorations, maybe very little.

AreWeThereYet Tue 22-Nov-22 13:31:40

No. They go up mid December and come down on 6th Jan. For the time they are up they make the place look bright and cheery and it is Christmas. Some of our neighbours have some lights up and we already don't even notice them.

FannyCornforth Tue 22-Nov-22 13:05:08

I don’t do mine all at once, I add bits and pieces as the month progresses.
I always have a real tree, one in a pot that keeps growing after Christmas

GreyKnitter Tue 22-Nov-22 12:28:45

My daughter and her family have theirs up already. My eldest granddaughter is in hospital for 3 days on intensive physio - a gruelling experience for everyone. Her little sister, who wanted to put the decorations up to cheer her sister up and show them how much they love her. My daughter said she just had to go with it!🥲🥲

nexus63 Tue 22-Nov-22 12:25:29

i am a bah humbug type, cards are written (did them in january) and got presents for 2 gc, that is as far as i go for christmas.

Joseanne Tue 22-Nov-22 12:23:30

Yes. My excuse is I'm going away this weekend and want them up ready for when I return in December.

SueDonim Tue 22-Nov-22 12:21:30

No! It all looks so stale by Christmas if it goes up now. I did see a house with windows covered in Xmas stick-on decorations yesterday.

ParlorGames Tue 22-Nov-22 11:59:41

No ! and if I have my way the outside lights will not be put up. Call me a grinch if you like but who will benefit???The neighbours, that's who. With the cost of energy I prefer to heat the house, no please the natives.

hazel93 Tue 22-Nov-22 11:59:04

No. Bit of a lie, first year ever bought an artificial tree. OH going abroad for a few weeks so had to ask him to put it together before he left . Now sitting sulking in the sitting room and so it will stay until December.

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 22-Nov-22 11:55:57

I always have fairy lights in the kitchen, dining room, sitting room and downstairs hallway and put them on when it’s a gloomy day.
We are going away and not home until the 10th December, Christmas Decs will go up then, at least this year I won’t have to start dusting them, last year I put them up early and they all got cobwebs on them!

Kate1949 Tue 22-Nov-22 11:55:48

No. They'll go up a week before Christmas 🎄

FannyCornforth Tue 22-Nov-22 11:53:21

GrannyGravy13

Have just put Christmas bedding in what we call the GC’s room along with fairy lights round the headboards and Christmas stuffed toys on the beds.

After my coffee I will put Christmas bedding and bits and bobs on the guest bedrooms.

I love the Christmas season and have a big house I decorate every room. I start early upstairs, will decorate downstairs first weekend of December real tree will be here around 15th Dec. DH does the outside.

Aah, that sounds lovely.
Can I come and stay?

karmalady Tue 22-Nov-22 11:52:15

Mine are now neatly stashed in their boxes, behind my sofa, ready for as and when. I went to the shops and several have lovely christmas windows, also real trees in the garden centre.

Definitely they will be up by the end of first week in december, I have visitors soon after that

Casdon Tue 22-Nov-22 11:40:55

I don’t put them up until the weekend before Christmas, and I hate to see them taken down before New Year is over. I don’t understand why so many people do that, when we’re nearly all at home relaxing over that period and can enjoy them - it’s like they think the Christmas period is over on Boxing Day?

B9exchange Tue 22-Nov-22 11:38:07

Not yet, but we have had a couple of dinner parties this week, so have cleaned up the storm lanterns and put them out with big candles in as a welcome. Tree comes from a Christmas Tree farm, we choose it and it is cut down for us, will do that first weekend in December.
