It’s from the patterns in Jean Greenhowe’s ‘Christmas Special’ booklet (main set) and Christmas Treasures (the donkey).

In case you’re not familiar with JG, her instructions are crystal clear and explicit - if you follow them exactly the results do turn out just like the illustration.

I have completed Mary, Joseph and wee Baby Jesus plus two sheep although one looks more like a polar bear 🙂

Are those from the original, long- languishing N set?
If so, 👏👏 and 🥂!

Yes, admittedly they were completed ages ago in a flush of enthusiasm 😁
The rest are all sleeping in their little bags in a larger bag in a box in the cupboard under the stairs.

I have had at least 3 emails over the last few weeks from Balsam Hill, purveyors of expensive C……. Trees urging me to buy mine now.

They’re advertising on TV, too.

Oh Christmas - are we talking yet?

I love the traditions that hand made gifts set up but they do take time to make. I can see no reason why those who are interested should not discuss this topic whenever they chose. To tell others not to is simply rude.

This has just landed in my inbox from a well-known yarn company!

"It’s never too early to start preparing for the most wonderful time of the year. Beat the festive rush and get your projects underway!"

Well, that’s fair enough for craft projects IMO.

I started making the 5th (if I haven’t lost count) Nativity Set last month. One shepherd and a Joseph done so far, basic figures and robes anyway, not all the bits and pieces, let alone the sewing up.
That’s in between other projects on the go.

Once we’re into September, the time positively whizzes past - always seems so to me, anyway.
As I’ve said elsewhere, I’m already saving jars for Delia’s 🎄mincemeat!

May we see a picture if you have one?

About 40 years ago, DS2 was incensed at the spate of 'back to school' signs in shops. So he wrote a letter to the local newspaper which was published. Not that it had any effect on the stores.
But about Christmas: I sometimes see something that would work as a Christmas present and it happened about a year ago that I saw, in a charity shop, a lovely, fluffy dog on wheels, obviously brand new - for £5. I snapped it up and kept it for my then new-born GGD. She got it for Christmas and now, 13 months old, she adores it, cuddles it and is using it to practise walking. When I discovered a children's wear site having a sale, I bought her Christmas present for this year too!

I've decided to take the notorious N set to the craft group in September so I can sew and natter at the same time, better than trying to do a complicated pattern.

It's still July summer is brief enough without contemplating the often dark and dreary winter, where there is such an inordinate focus is on just one day, a religious feast that's sadly morphed into an overblown consumer fest

I like fairy lights- lots of them. I have left a few up since Christmas - just the white ones and as my Yorkshire Mum would have said, 'they fair cheer me up'.

I’m pleased someone has mentioned sprouts, like the late, very much missed, Victoria Wood, I never put mine on until September.

I think it was Sarah Kennedy whose recipe for sprouts went something like this
Place 3 stones in a pan, add water and sprouts, bring to the boil then simmer until the stones are tender!
