Following on from the FTONY discussion, and a post by Grandmarie on the Christmas party thread, what Christmas songs do you like that aren’t so well known, or aren’t regularly played on the radio and in shops etc.

Links would be great.

I’ll kick off with

Same Old Lang Syne by Dan Fogelberg youtu.be/-w8zLg4kNms?si=kkaK7ONGZdboNT7X

and Disturbed’s version of the Sound of Silence youtu.be/u9Dg-g7t2l4?si=WHskXbXgrKRmokvV

My favourite carol is Bob Chilcott’s ‘Shepherd’s Carol’. The line “Silence more lovely than music folded the hill” raises the hairs on the back of my neck.

The Shepherds Farewell by Berlioz : utterly beautiful.

This is beautiful Carol and very seldom heard.

I love "Mary ,did you know?". My favourite version is sung by CeeLo Green

JackyB Thu 14-Dec-23 09:36:49

White Wine in the Sun by Tim Minchin. I don't know how he manages to make me cry singing about the Australian Christmas that I have never even experienced.

Rowantree Thu 14-Dec-23 06:55:54

The Dormouse Carol. My children's music teacher taught it at their school and I love it

MrsKen33 Thu 14-Dec-23 06:11:33

Gaudete by Steeleye Span

Jesus Christ the Apple Tree is my absolute favourite so beautiful just to stop and think for a minute while it's on if I can stop DH lumbering around.

Mary’s Lament.

We sang it at choir and I played the flute part.

Our Primary 1's always sang this at their Nativity play. It makes me feel very nostalgic. It was so uplifting to hear the wee ones belt out the chorus.

Hello, 👋, Siope, great idea for a Christmas thread.
Sorry I can't do links, but one of my favourite less well known Christmas songs is White Wine in the Sun, by Tim Minchin.
