The Christmas letters have started arriving!

Oh how my heart sinks although I have to hold my hands up and admit that in years gone by I used to write one “sharing” the exploits of our AC and the arrival of the DGC.

Apologies all round . ( Lucky escape you might think).

So this year as I don’t have a printer I thought I’d send it to you instead.

It’s Chrimbo, guys! Peace and goodwill and all that.
Sorry if you had to go to the Post Office and pay a fiver to collect this, but hey, have you seen the price of stamps? Bet you still think it’s worth it though to hear all about me
I probably can’t read your news as I’m currently, well, not at my usual crib. It was a bit tricky when the cannabis lamps overheated, blew all the fuses and burned the house down. Landlord not too chuffed so I’m keeping a low profile sofa surfing at Sid and Noleen’s for a bit
The kids are great though. Darryl should be out soon, thanks Sir Keir but I don’t know what he’ll say about the little ‘un as he’s 2 next week and Darryl went down 4 years ago. Ah well, cross that bridge when we come to it
Hermione and her kids are doing great. Tonya hasn’t been excluded from her school all year and moves up to Year 1 next year. Well done her! The triplets are a right handful but we let Fluffy the pit bull keep an eye on them so they don’t get up to mischief.
I got a new job last March, didn’t like it much though so I’m going to do another course at the Tech so they don’t stop my benefits Can’t choose between Nail Technology and Nuclear Physics. Reckon the Nail Technology will be the better earner when I finish the course so I’ll prolly do that.
Better get a move on and get out to the shops. As it’s the festive season I’m not going shoplifting at Tesco as per usual, thought I’d go upmarket and go to Waitrose.
Cheers big ears !🎅

Perfect antidote to these annoying letters which I'm glad to say I no longer get.

Speaking to someone yesterday who said she still sends one to family friends even though she hasn't seen them since she got married- which was 30 years ago!

Bonkers.

LOLOLOL ~~~ Good one!!

* Don't expect any Christmas letters or cards from Canada. Our postal workers have been on strike going on four weeks now.

I will be sending a lot more e-cards this year! [maybe a blessing, eh!! ]

That’s hilarious RosiesMaw2 . I can’t stand round robin letters, they portray a perfect happy family with no negatives . I also find them impersonal.
I tend to write a personal note in cards to people I don’t see often .

sazz1 Wed 11-Dec-24 12:22:28

Never received one or sent one. Think I may be alone on this but perhaps a good thing lol

sodapop Wed 11-Dec-24 12:22:18

Each to their own Romola I don't object to round robins per se. Just when people use them to boast about their families and themselves without showing the slightest interest in the recipient.

GrauntyHelen Wed 11-Dec-24 12:19:30

Brilliant -the first time ever I've enjoyed a Christmas letter

Romola Wed 11-Dec-24 12:18:11

Well, I'm someone who for the last 30 years has sent a round robin. And so do many of our friends whom we see only rarely. We love getting their news and they say they like hearing from us - well, just me now. So there!

mabon1 Wed 11-Dec-24 12:12:03

I have never written "round robin" My friends who live away are all different types of people and have a variety of hobbies, it is so lazy not to write individual letters, not at at friendly.

Somewhere on the shelf I have one of Simon Hoggart's books, if anyone needs a bit of help with their Christmas letter-writing, I can thoroughly recommend

So relieved Maw, to read your family is just like ours x

Even down to the same names, innit! 😯

😃 😀 😃
You have a very interesting entrepreneurial family there. No holding back!
I've never sent one of those letters, and only receive one or two.

For the second year running my late husband’s cousin sent a newsy letter about all sorts of unrelated people, with not a mention of him, even the year he died. She is no longer getting a card from me.

merlotgran Tue 10-Dec-24 16:49:07

Great Stuff, Maw . I groaned when my first card plopped on the mat this year.

It was from DH’s cousin, his wife writes them and as usual it was a long list of ailment's, marriage break ups and other disasters that have befallen them this year.

Two words were missing…one was Christmas and the other was Happy!

sodapop Tue 10-Dec-24 16:24:40

Brilliant RosiesMaw2 I have been so tempted to send something like that myself.
We have one acquaintance who sends the details of all the good works she has done for the community over the last year but never asks how we are.

NonGrannyMoll Tue 10-Dec-24 15:13:17

Oh, I'd choose Nuclear Physics, no contest. Build my own warhead, so I'll be protected when the rest of the world goes kablooey. As long as I unleash mine before they unleash theirs, what can possibly go wrong?

SuzieHi Tue 10-Dec-24 15:02:55

If I still sent cards think I’d be tempted to copy your letter & send it on! Ha ha!
(We usually receive at least 2 ‘ bragging type ‘ news letters).

LauraNorderr Tue 10-Dec-24 13:11:11

Well Maw I wouldn’t worry too much about Darryl, he prolly had conjugating rights, so unless he has one of them pattern nitty tests his missis should keep schtum.

🤣🤣🤣
In current parlance, Wicked!
Had to go back and read it twice.

Gracesnan Tue 10-Dec-24 12:31:25

Brilliant !!

Brilliant! I get one from a cousin every year and this year, she mentioned that her husband had just retired. So later that evening, I thought I'd google his retirement and see if I could find the newspaper article she'd mentioned in the letter. Well, let's just say my google search revealed a major skeleton in the closet she didn't mention in the letter!

The internet is for ever! 😀

SueDonim Tue 10-Dec-24 12:24:34

Just what I needed this morning, Maw! grin. You didn’t tell us about your new XL Bully dog fur baby, though! 🐶

dragonfly46 Tue 10-Dec-24 12:16:46

That is fantastic Maw.
It wasn't very realistic though - all the letters we get are all about the amazing exploits they have been up to and how wonderfully the AC are doing!
We got one one year telling us that Sally had died and how sad they were. I couldn't think who Sally was until at the end of the letter they mentioned it was the dog!!

Usedtobeblonde Tue 10-Dec-24 12:15:36

We used to get just two.
One was just lovely, honest down to earth facts about AC , GC and new arrivals. No boasting no embellishments just family news.
The other however was such a laugh, both into local politics, you would have guessed just a step away from the Cabinet Office.
On the police committee, JP , chairmen of almost everything.
Avid attenders of Party conferences and hobnobbing with everyone.
Cruises were commented on in detail.
My H used to keep them all in a file, I think he read them when he wanted a chuckle.

Witzend Tue 10-Dec-24 12:11:14

Brilliant! 👏👏🎄
