Taking Christmas decorations down

We normally take our decorations down the day after New Years Day, but its so dark and miserable outside that I'm minded to leave them up for a while. It helps to cheer things up.
What do others do?

There is still a big Christmas tree on Paignton sea front today. A modern green lights one. It looks lovely.
Perhaps they forgot to take it down.

Serious question here. wink Is it unlucky to still use The Snowman and the Snowdog loo paper after 12th night? I have 2 rolls left!! grin

Just claim a Scandi connection!

Here in Sweden we still have another week as the decorations can stay up until the 20th day (tjugondag Knut) when you are supposed "dance out" Christmas and "plunder" the Christmas tree for any edible decorations.

When my children were little we used to go to the town square where the folk dancing club organised some dancing for the children, the shopkeepers' association handed out little bags with gingerbread, a satsuma and a few sweets while a council lorry collected people's Christmas trees which were taken to fuel the town power station.

It would be unlucky if you threw them away and then ran out of loo roll

Good point LauraNorderr!

Allira - Only printed on one side so problem solved! grin

😁

Mine are all down. 3 trees. Thousands of lights. Packed away until next Christmas.

And I hate it

Spotted one Christmas Decoration still hanging the kitchen!! Must remember to take it down!

I hate "getting back to normal". Reality can be suspended forever as far as I'm concerned.

Done! And upstairs in storage room.

Why won't the lids go on when the same things came out of those boxes a month ago?
It's always a puzzle.

Went to church and took down the tree. I also put the 3 wise men in the crib, which stays in place until candlemas. Then home and took down our decorations. Everything in the boxes but the lids won't go on so I shall repack tomorrow. All cards are waiting to be cut up ready to remake/make gift tags for next Christmas.

Is it printed on both sides?
If not, use the other side 😁

Ps Do you have a cupboard near the loo?
Hide them in a cupboard when not using them, out of sight.

Sorry, that was for LadyStardust. smile

If you get stuck, give me a shout. I bought in extras for a game we played involving rolling baubles down a ramp to land them in toilet roll holes. I can’t get the new gift toiletries in the airing cupboard now for all the loo rolls in there..

We usually take them down New Year’s Day. It looks bare but tidy. Have to say I put them up first weekend in dec.

Cards were dealt with a couple of days ago. Tree and the few other bits were put away this morning. Holidays booked, so life moves on.

Son has kindly just taken our tree and decs down. I packed them in containers and he is putting them in the loft tonight.

We just said that it has been a very different Christmas without my husband who is still in hospital. We are hoping that next Christmas we will all be together again and he has made a good recovery.

😂 yes, Misinterpreted, I do have a quite a lot of them - some go in the dining room, some in the lounge, some in the hall and landing and some in the kitchen. They do look lovely when they’re done, but need to come down (and go up) gradually. Whilst I can do it, I will, but I can see the day when I won’t be doing as many, much as I love them.

Allira Mon 06-Jan-25 17:19:23

The tree's in the conservatory but it is undecorated.
I thought it might have a shock if it went out from a warm room to cold outside.

MissInterpreted Mon 06-Jan-25 17:18:12

Some people must put up a hell of a lot of decorations if it takes them days to take them all down again! Do some of you decorate every room in the house or something?

M0nica Mon 06-Jan-25 17:10:18

I have nearly finished. I should finish tomorrow.

MiniMoon Mon 06-Jan-25 17:08:40

I packed Christmas away yesterday. Tree down and back in its box waiting to be returned to the cupboard. This morning I took the batteries out of all the little light up ornaments.
Only thing left is to unplug the outside lights. DH will have to do that, I can't reach.

rafichagran Mon 06-Jan-25 16:58:45

All done yesterday, decorations packed away and in the loft, Real tree outside.
It took five hours because I decided to clear out the large cupboard under the stairs as well. I am burning my candles as the house looks bare and I want to feel cosy.
