No. I stopped sending them ten years ago when my husband died and I couldn’t face signing just my own name.

💐💐 For you Bellasnana.

Must admit I've not got round to doing any yet - which is unusual for me...but I'm going more in that direction over time.

Partly - yep people are sending less. Partly it's an experience that has "got old" as I've got older myself. Though it's true that getting older brings a lot of "I've done that before 100 times", "I've done that before 5,000 times" and one gets a bit bored with repeating an experience for the umpteenth time.

If the Royal Mail was able to bring out special Christmas stamps in say the first two weeks of December, purely for posting only in December, and they was reduced to half price of a normal cost, and all proceeds went to charity, I’m sure all of us would gladly send more cards to all friends and family…for a lot of us, we can’t afford to send everyone a card because of the postage! Don’t know how difficult this would be for Royal Mail to do, but it would benefit us with Christmas cheer sending cards and helping a charity!

Yes, but the number dwindles.

I will still send cards, but agree that the cost of postage is really high. Privatisation again, don't ever tell me it makes a business better for the customer.

I send one to my mum and thats it

GrannyIvy Sat 11-Oct-25 15:24:41

Well I look forward to them as last year we didn’t put a tree up as we are trying not to have too much to do these days.We are well into our eighties and climbing up to the loft to find decorations was too much for me and now my dh has hurt a leg and is now not up to it. My family will do it for us just to collect the two nativities, snowman, Father Christmas , etc etc but honestly that means too much at the moment so cards will be welcome. Just going to see how dh gets on. So far he has been good but at 86 and now both of us using walking sticks we are not looking too active. I have bought about 40 cards for family and people I haven’t seen for years but we write our news to keep up. Hand deliver about a dozen but we are so looking forward to the birth of our first great grandchild next month so seeing her will be the great event at the family Christmas meal.

Having recently been presented with my very first great grandchild, I can confidently say that you are right that seeing her will be the best thing for you. We hadn’t had a new baby in the family for 17 years, so to have one this year is wonderful.
Congratulations, and happy Christmas!

Even if it was on the wrong thread!

It was better on this thread.😁

I love Christmas and all that comes with it, but few of my friends are left now, so I won’t be sending many cards. The exorbitant and greedy postage charge has put me off too. Royal Mail is its own worst enemy.
I don’t like the Christmas (round Robin) letter either, but I don’t really know why, as I love getting ordinary letters. My cousin’s wife sends a very long and detailed letter every Christmas, which contains the most boring details ever. She obviously thinks I really wanted to know that part of her lawn had gone brown, so she had replaced it with new turf! It was all in that vein. Not only that, she would cover three pages with ‘news’, but every single sentence would be a big boast about the family’s achievements. Never once did she want to know what we were up to. I began to lose the will to live!

Yes - I like to send and receive them.
I've often received beautiful cards which add to all the decorations in the house.

Just don’t’ send it to the Vicar

I'm sure our vicar would laugh (but I won't risk it!).

I always send special cards for family members, and charity ones (This tear Hillside animal sanctuary) to friends and a few neighbours

I can recall a happy time when the house was festooned with Christmas cards .
It certainly isn't now .
I send to my immediate family .
And to my friends, neighbours and fellow parishioners .
I buy some .
I make some .
Since my father passed our relatives have pretty much given me the heave ho .
I used to go to so much trouble to keep him in contact with them and give them updates.

Blimey!
I thought you were putting that as a Christmas greeting in your cards! 😂

The episode in The Crown where Princess Margaret allegedly made up a limerick to entertain her American hosts made me laugh:

There was a young lady from Dallas,
Used a dynamite stick as a phallus,
They found her vagina in North Carolina,
And her arsehole in Buckingham Palace.

It was a drinking contest so she was bound to win! 😂

Yes, I'll be sending a sack full, but mainly because I move around a lot and like to stay in touch.

I see you have realised Merlotgran.
It gave me a good laugh. Thank you.

Merlotgran I think you might have posted on the wrong thread. grin

Astitchintime Fri 10-Oct-25 17:21:40

No, not even hand delivered ones. Sooner spend the money by donating to a local charity than buy cards for someone to have to remember to recycle correctly after Christmas.
