Cost of M & S Christmas food

If I was called rich I would be very pleased.

I can understand Waygu beef being that expensive, but I would make my own pie. Can anyone enlighten this French resident on how much a button goose is now in the UK?

My butchers are offering them from £140to £180.

Too small for our family. We always have Turkey to feed the 5000😄.

But if I had a choice I’d have a rib of beef.

mum2three I buy M & S shortbread biscuits year round as they are DH’s favourite.

M&S used to be known for the quality of their food but not any more. I bought one of their Christmas hampers and it was very disappointing. The shortbread wasn't made with butter and was greasy and tasteless. The luxury mince pies are worth buying but the ones from my local Spar are just as good.

Never eat it. We have chicken, it does a meal for two days. Buy our veg from a local farm. Make my own trifle and have Viennetta/ ice cream for folks that don't like trifle. I do buy GF food from M&S but that's out of necessity. I do like the fact they care where their food comes from, but it doesn't matter where you shop. Prices are ridiculous, but it's worldwide.

Ditch them and go to ALDI, Tesco, Sainsbury and Iceland.

Lots of special goodies at less than half the price.

Aldi uses the same supplier, you get the same food for a fraction of the price.

You really don't.

Suppliers are not processors. Food from Aldi and M&S may be processed in the same factory (or they may not - I don't know), but as I said upthread, they will be on different production lines and made to different recipes.

Aldi food can be very good - I'm not saying otherwise - in fact some lines may be better than M&S, but it is not the same.

I can confirm you're 100% correct from insider knowledge. My 'informant' is connected to one of the other big supermarkets not M&S but confirms M&S have their own recipes etc that are not the same as Aldi, Tesco, Sainsbury's etc. That person also informs that when a company investigates having an Indian based call centre they are invariably shown the M&S one because it's superior and staffed by excellent English speakers. The others not so much.
I have no personal connection to M&S, but yes I do buy some food from there, also Sainsbury's and certain items from Aldi and Lidl, some of which I prefer to M&S's offerings.

I know they are closing about 11 of their cafes, hadn't heard about any stores. Although a couple have closed recently I think.

I am in the S E, and we have three M & S Food Halls within 3-4 miles, they are always busy.

The M & S department store in our nearest shopping mall relocated to the space vacated by Debenhams, it has doubled in size.

Ours is busy too.

There is another option to overpriced items in supermarkets.

Shop local - butchers, farm shops, deli’s etc.

Whoops, hadn't quite finished... wanted to say that if I become too disabled or tired, of course I will follow what DM did finally and go with M&S.

I live on a very limited budget, but I do shop at M and S quite frequently. I look for freezable bargains and stock up on them. M and S bread is so tasty so well worth freezing reduced loaves.

I am sure there will be Christmas food that can be bought at more reasonable prices than in any fancy brochure.

M and S food is of the highest standard. You only have to buy a bag of Co-op salad and compare it to M and S salad after a few days. I can tell you which one whiffs !!

Times change. When I was earning, husband and children at homeM&S was a blessing at Christmas, even though expensive
But now, I'm not time-poor and love making all the Christmas food
