That's Christmas Ruined Then

You know every year you read all the stories of the mouldy veg and the rancid turkeys and not being able to get any pigs in blankets and how it absolutely RUINED their Christmas?

And you think to yourself "get a grip it's just a bit of food, hardly the end of the world"

Well..and I'm almost shaking whilst typing...Sainsbury's are not going to be delivering my 2 tubs of TWIGLETS. I'm absolutely bereft. Christmas is the only time I have them and as I tip them into a bowl I think of my Mum, and how magical Christmas seemed way back then. And not only will I have no twiglets, but they've substituted them with a pack of cheese and onion crisps - when I already have 2 on my order.

Well, that's my Christmas RUINED - I'm off to report this to the Daily Mail.

Signed - Inconsolable and indignant ferry23

Snowball perhaps? (Advocaat)

I was very decadent and I bought some Twiglets early, They were absolutely disgusting nothing like the Twiglets we used to have. They were actually thrown away, not really something I could use for something else .
So if is any help to you, you’ve not missed anything because they’re not as good anymore.
Merry Christmas, everyone 🎄🎄🎄

Just reading this thread and I’ve realised that I’ve forgotten together DH his customary tub of cheeselets or treeslets as they are at Christmas. Not sure what time B&Ms shut but I might just have to dash over the road with fingers crossed 😂

Magenta8 - I love twiglets and Marmite. I recently bought a large packet of Marmite crisps - they were AWFUL Nothing like Marmite - I don't know what they have done to them I only ate one packet out of the 12.

Happy Christmas to you all.

Me too! The importance of twiglets!!!
Will something or other dipped in marmite not do? (runs for cover).

Mr Bean cut some bare twigs from a tree and dipped them in marmite......

EllieW the cherryB 😅🤣😂

Winglets! Sorry my phone has predictive texting. Let’s try again.
Twiglets!! Food of the devil! Like eating bamboo canes dipped in manure!
But cheese footballs - now I would knock over an elderly person and steal the prize out of their hands if they had picked up the last tub of cheese footballs. Might even mug a child in its pushchair. Why do they only come out at Christmas? Surely I can’t be the only person who salivates over them.
And as for things not tasting the same - my Mum used to love a Cherry B ( and Snowballs) so when I saw a pack of 4 in Asda last Christmas, I scooped it up thinking I would have a little toast to her after the turkey. It was vile! Didn’t taste anything like the drink I remembered. I drank another one just to be sure but it was no good. But I can’t abide waste and forced myself to drink them ( by the fourth one it had started to grow on me….)

I thought that I had ordered from ocado a tray of mixed Mediterranean veg. When it arrived it was a packet of Schwartz herbs, spices and other rubbish! I had to provide the veg. Moral: read the post properly

Sister was poorly so wrote shopping list for her husband. Needed loo rolls. He read it as 100 rolls and bought that amount. Didn’t need to replenish for ages.

That is appalling fancyflowers fake mince pies indeed definitely a criminal offence in my book. Just polishing off a second home made mince pie, my husband's pastry is excellent. Sorry.

Party at yours 😂😂

Janet1946 Wed 24-Dec-25 15:32:32

There is a very good Christmas cake recipe on-line - Three Ingredient Christmas Cake and Bailey's is a main ingredient!

saltrock123 Wed 24-Dec-25 15:27:36

Would rather forego the turkey in favour of Twiglets. None to be found here either. Will have to make do with roast spus dipped in Marmite

I never liked Twiglets but I can see how your Christmas is utterly ruined.

Mine has been ruined by fake mince pies. DH ordered them and they looked like mince pies, but when I ate one it was disgusting.

It turns out that they are some kind of chocolate brownie and need to be microwaved. I can understand it if they were sold as chocolate brownies, but to pretend they are mince pies is just beyond the pale.

Do any of you remember the great Good Life when Margo cancelled christmas order as her tree was not the right height. ? It was a fun episode.
Remember not to waste anything. An important recipe that you could add Baileys to is, that if there is a banana going a bit black and soft, you must find a container - I use a sweetcorn dish - peel and cut lengthways and put into dish. Add a little brown sugar - preferably from a packet you had left over from coffee in a cafe - some orange juice from a packet or fresh, Then add a good spoonful of your chosen alcohol, so rum for the traditional caribbean taste, or brandy or the said baileys and then into the microwave for about 1 or 2 minutes. until soft . Mmm banane flambe without the flame. Add a drop of cream if you have some left and there you are. Virtuously using up left overs , your halos will be shining but dont let the cops catch you driving when you have just eaten that!

I’ve done that along time ago , tho not in the microwave, but also with any old biscuits lying around, preferably dogestive types, but any will do . Mash them up with butter til a fairly solid consistency then do as you say… bananas on top. I used rum… but have an old bottle of Baileys I might try!
Used to oven cook then in a shallow Pyrex dish with cream on top… delicious. Not done this for decades, but may give it a go in the microwave..?

Much sympathy for anyone who has ordered anything that HAS to arrive in time for Christmas day.

But it's being delivered via Evri. Supposedly.

Drewntee Wed 24-Dec-25 15:03:51

Outrageous ! 😂

Littlebea02 Wed 24-Dec-25 14:56:18

lol. Air mail I don’t think email would get them to you in an edible fashion.😂😂

Pebbles101 Wed 24-Dec-25 14:53:42

Oh no I wish I could give u mine as only bought last minute I they remind me of the old xmases too 🤗

Grammaretto Wed 24-Dec-25 14:49:35

I laughed my way through scrubbing my burnt pan this morning thanks to this thread ferry so thankyou.

I'm obviously not meant to have chestnuts this Christmas. I tried 3 shops until I found some but then forgot all about them boiling away on the hob (in order to remove their skins).

I am definitely not trying again now 🤣😅

Merry Christmas everyone

Does anyone remember the Mr Bean episode where he made Twiglets by cutting twigs off a tree and dipping them in Marmite? Just a thought.

Ilovedragonflies Wed 24-Dec-25 14:39:44

I saw a post this morning where someone had ordered a turkey as part of their main Christmas food delivery and received a small box of frozen chicken dippers as a substitute...
