How do you feel about getting older? Whether it's a pet peeve or, equally, something you like, let us know (in no more than two sentences) and you could appear in a brand new novel.

Pan Macmillan publishers want to get a snapshot of real women’s feelings about ageing. A selection of these will be included in the new book The Time of our Lives by Sunday Times Top Ten Bestseller Maeve Haran.

You might remember Maeve as the author of 90’s smash hit Having It All, a novel that sparked huge debate about whether women could work and have a family, and much more besides. As well as being a brilliant read, her new book is about four friends in their early sixties, and the new issues they face, twenty years older than the protagonists of Having it All.

Everyone who posts a comment will be entered into a draw to win one of 20 exclusive early reading copies of The Time of Their Lives, and everyone whose comments are used will be entered into a draw to win a luxury forest cabin break for four people – details HERE.

We also have an exclusive extract from the book which you can read here.

No problem with getting older just your body cant keep pace with what you want to do anymore.

I like the distance being older brings - things aren't quite so intense, there's more perspective from knowing the past. I don't so much like being peripheral, and passing a time when I had the energy ( and folly) to believe I could make things happen.

I've turned into a grumpy old woman! Totally intolerant of all the little annoying things that for years I just put up with!

I've always found this mantra, "It's better than the alternative", an uplifting yet sobering thought on getting older.

louiseacat Fri 21-Feb-14 21:07:13

I'm finding it really scary how time is just flying by now - the fact that I'm half way through my life is terrifying but.....CONFIDENCE is now growing at an amazing rate. I suppose its some compensation!

I hate being this age and looking this old when I still haven't done anything! I especially haven't done anything for me yet : (

Milly Fri 21-Feb-14 21:24:09

My Dad at 82 said he still felt young inside, now I am 79 I too still feel young inside, and then look in the mirror. Ugh.

brummie Fri 21-Feb-14 21:38:33

I'm happy with the fact that I am more confident than in my youth but I hate to see the ever-increasing wrinkles on my face.

Kflori Fri 21-Feb-14 21:53:42

I reuse to think I am getting older, everybody else is just looking much younger, that's all!

katscreamy Fri 21-Feb-14 21:57:40

i hate getting older because my body is giving up on me. mentally i'm ok, but everything hurts!

granoftwo Fri 21-Feb-14 21:58:52

Being older is only a number, its how you feel on the inside.{smile]

vivianallman Fri 21-Feb-14 21:59:13

would love this, need a break the start of the year has been traumatic and would love something to look forward to.

Bothiegran2013 Fri 21-Feb-14 22:33:18

I don't like the thought of getting older. In my mind I am still 21 but my body tells me differently. I can't do what I used to be able to do and that frustrates me.

Soutra Fri 21-Feb-14 22:40:00

I have heard said that the most serious illness of old age is hardening of the attitudes!

mrusty5 Fri 21-Feb-14 22:45:22

Old, who's old?!

faybelle Fri 21-Feb-14 23:04:43

Its not about counting the years that matters its what you do with them which counts

codfather Fri 21-Feb-14 23:05:07

As I get older, I notice more young women smile at me! Rarely happened when I was young!

biffsmom Fri 21-Feb-14 23:07:44

Age is nothing more than a number, everyone ages at a different rate, so forget the number.

I am happier, wiser, more body confident and I know myself better than 20years ago.

As a veterinary nurse, I have decided I am ageing like a Jack Russell Terrier, while those around me can age like large breeds.

philatel Fri 21-Feb-14 23:28:07

I like being older except for all the medical issues that seem to occur!

Reaching old age is a privilege that is denied to so many. So revel in it and enjoy it to the full.

tanmack Sat 22-Feb-14 00:41:25

i am not bothered about getting older as long as i can stay healthy. I have become involved in a lot of voluntary work, after i left my last job after a period of ill-health and enjoy meeting new friends in the various activities i am currently enjoying. After all, they do say that age is just a number {smile}

Littlemissactive Sat 22-Feb-14 06:42:08

54 years young. Don't stop me now, I'm having such a good time!

bishiebee Sat 22-Feb-14 06:52:19

the advantage of being older is that when you look in the mirror and get a bit upset - it doesn't last long as you forget it really quickly - just like everything else!

jmk4646 Sat 22-Feb-14 07:55:57

Being old is just like being young -but slower

patsy13 Sat 22-Feb-14 08:16:46

when I do something silly I think why?. Then I look in the mirror and then I know why. (sad)
