Being that bit of distance allows you to be more objective, keep calm and keep promises/secrets for your kids and grand kids. Experience of your own kids development helps you to be calmer then parents when kids are not progressing according to e books!! Having more free time to spend means that you get more fun and less of the hassles.

It's "Grand," as hubby's Highland Granny would say, because you get to enjoy all those marvellous moments of childhood again. Only this time you have the confidence to relax and not worry about "Stuff."
You're also free from the demands of "Stuff to do" as it can all wait until the adored ones have been handed back- thus the focus can be purely on fun & memory making smile Grandparenthood rocks!

The grand part for me is just watching the grandkids play, listening to them (try to) talk, getting to know their characters, their foibles... just loving them for who they are.

It is a Grand privilege to live in the same town as my grandsons to share in their weekly highs and lows, winnings and losings, likes and dislikes. I can now play football, ride zip wires and run, cuddles are Grand too.

Being a parent is the practice run, being a grand parent is when everything's perfect

Having the combined wisdom of Gransnet at one's fingertips helps when faced with grand parenting dilemmas. Watching grandchildren grow, learn and develop their individual personalities is a delight and a privilege.

Being there always... No matter what

its grand being a grandparent,
opportunities should never be missed.
Being around to help and support,
Or just be a listing ear,
we can spoil and treat them,
And can teach them so much,
But most of the time they see us friends,
Including us in their games,
We always love to play,
Keeping us young in our old fashioned way

It's having the patience and experience to really appreciate every glorious moment with the grandchildren. As a parent you are often so busy the years rush by - as a grandparent you have none of the responsibility and worries so you can relax and enjoy your time with the kids. Plus it's hilarious listening to the parents complaining about the kids doing things you remember them doing as a child (and that you complained about too).

It's grand to have the chance to help out our children and to have time to spend with our grandchildren. If we can help to bring some fun and happiness into their lives, then surely that's a grand thing to do!
