Being there when needed

For me, the GRAND is reliving through my Grandchildren, the simple pleasures of reading a story together, cutting out and colouring, and playing ball in the garden, just as I enjoyed doing with my own children.

Grand is probably the amount each year that gets spent on the grandchildren

There are few enough people you can TRUST these days, so thanks to the grandparents for being there when they're needed

Being there for their grandchildren and being a fun and reliable grandparent!

boiledham Thu 04-Sep-14 14:55:49

Love, patience, experience and always being there

Elleceebee Thu 04-Sep-14 14:57:58

The Grand denotes how HUGE the pleasure is of being part of grandchildren's lives.

Nothing can compare to a set of little fingers curling round yours and a little boy saying 'I love you, Grandma'.

createbeauty Thu 04-Sep-14 15:03:17

It's GRAND being able to spoil my grandchildren and not having to deal with the consequences! I can just hand them back to their parents and enjoy watching the struggle that follows, haha!

anngwill Thu 04-Sep-14 15:03:34

Being able to have the time to enjoy but most of all life's experience's to pass onto the grandchildren.

rutsan Thu 04-Sep-14 15:04:45

Grandparents treat their grandchildren like VIP, they love them like parents do but have more time and patience because they dont have to do all of the stressful part.

janeyf Thu 04-Sep-14 15:05:26

The GRAND is the kind and patient wisdom passed down to grandchildren

carol810 Thu 04-Sep-14 15:06:14

The Grand is because we have had a grandstand view of how their parents bring them up and we now can fit in with the special treats and be there for the times their parents cant be. Its also grand to be asked to have them from time to time and spend time with them.

For me, the Grand in Grandparent is the chance to see the world through a childs eyes again. To enjoy carefree & silly activities that you never did as a busy parent, but now have the time & the devil may care attitude to enjoy with your grandchildren

peterhall Thu 04-Sep-14 15:09:05

It's just Grand being allowed to share in the life of my grandchildren

My take on Grand is:

G is for GREAT FUN (that's what it's all about)
R is for REFLECTION (on our own parenting/childhood & using the best bits)
A is for ADORABLE (we all want to be this to our grandchildren)
N is for NAUGHTY (well, we can be, its half the fun)
D is for DEPENDABLE (always being there for them, unconditionally)

Being a grandparent gives us a new lease of life in our later years & keeps us youthful. It may be demanding at times but life is never dull & is full of love & laughter.

catmiaow Thu 04-Sep-14 15:36:24

Being there for you for advice, caring about you and being supportive no matter what you do.

Aaaaa Thu 04-Sep-14 15:37:57

a fountain of all knowledge, experience, and treats, and the ability to help and guide, keeping us young and healthy with a sense of fun, love and laughter
