Its a double "Grand" for me not having any children myself, I married a gorgeous man who had two boys. A mother and now a grandmother of a wonderful girl. A dream come true.

Your children will always be your children, no matter how old they are, their spouses also become your children and you worry and care about them as much. When we are lucky enough to have Grandchildren come along and top up your family, that caring continues but with that extra element of heartwarming joy and fun. I think the Grand in Grandparent stands for encompassing ALL our children, grown and newly born.

Its another chance to re-live the wonderful days when we had our own kids, only better!!

Because we brought up their parents we are elevated to the position of grand masters of knowing everything, being able to give the best hugs and kisses, the best tickles, the time to listen, playing spiderman and rolling around the floor covered in pretend webs, getting covered with paint, flour, play doh and having the time to laugh and listen to all their stories and treasure them for the short time we will be in their young lives.

Just one word puts the"grand" in Grandparents.....LOVE .

lesley5127 Thu 25-Sept-14 20:50:11

It's the Grand anount of Love we have for and give to our Grandchildren, that they then give back to us

The Grand amount of Pleaseure they give us, when we give it to them.

So A Grand Time is had by all

We all do a much Grander job of being a Grandparent, than when we were parents, as we have more time and know so much more that we did back then.

It's just Grand being a grandparent - all the love, all the spoiling, all the treats, then hand them back at the end of the day. Perfect.

Grand is the feeling you get,
and how they should feel,
and know, that they are safe and secure
and of central importance to you
at all times. sunshine

Grandchildren inherit and pass on family love from generation to generation. It's what sticks the fabric of society together.

janerowena Thu 25-Sept-14 11:23:57

I think all these wonderful grandparents, approximately 400 of them so far, should have an equal share in the £2500 prize money. wink

For me, being a grandparent has been turbulent due to the violent men my daughter has chosen to have relationships with. I have been told at least ten times that I would not be allowed to see my beloved GS any more, the next day she wants me to have him, often for days at a time, and then he is taken away again. I love him so dearly and its endless pain of being denied access to him and then being allowed to get so close to him again only for him to be taken away again days later. I have had my life threatened, had to face unbelievable fear from both my daughter and her bf and yet I always try to look out for my dear GS, even if can only be from afar at times. It ain't always GRAND being a grandparent but my heart could burst with love for him. I only hope that he can look up to me with when he is older with love and pride and know that it was never, ever my choice for him not to be I my life.

Wisdom, unconditional love, being able to afford to spoil them without worrying about the spending the food or bills budget. Having the opportunity to watch the next generation flourish. THATS GREAT.

It's GRAND to be able to do all the wonderful ( and yes, sometimes not so wonderful ! and yes can be tiring !!) things that my Mum ( and Dad ) did for my children . As my Mum says " That's not Grand It is really GREAT.

Being totally involved with the grandchildren when they are with you; being their friend; their confidant; their moral compass; their guide; their boundary setter; their playmate; teacher and memory builder.. You feel like a wet rag when they go but are ready to do exactly the same the next time you see them.

Ruby6918 Mon 22-Sept-14 22:24:45

the grand in grand parent is knowing that children are so honest with their love, they only say how they really feel without boundaries and insecurity like adults so when express their love to you its meant from their wee hearts, this also means that they will be honest and tell you your dinner you made them is rotten, and they don't like you any more and ......... we have all been there. !! but those wee words from them I love you are real and true and being a grand parents means we get the chance for a wee while to feel true innocence and love from our grand child , that is price less.
