Attention all gransnetters, we're giving away a fabulous set of DVDs worth £199.42 courtesy of the lovely people at Twentieth Century Fox. The bundle includes a huge variety of films and television series such as Modern Family, Bones, The Fault in our Stars, The Book of Life and many more - perfect entertainment for all the family during a miserable month of April showers.

To be in with a chance of winning we want you to tell us which movie you would screen (and why) if you had your very own cinema for just one night. The more funny and outrageous the better. May the Force be with you all smile

*Congratulations trisher, you are the lucky winner. We LOVED the hilarious account of what you would have everyone do whilst screening South Pacific!*

It would have to be It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World - starring Spencer Tracy and many other great film stars, some in just cameo roles. I remember watching this with my two sons when they were aged 8 and 13 and we laughed so much all through the film. So I would love to watch this again on the big screen along with my six grandchildren and their numerous cousins - it would be a great family day out.

Hi folks,

I would show the first film of Freaky Friday, from 1976 starring Jodie Foster. The eldest two. Of my grandchildren have seen the remake of this film and loved it, but you can't deny the charm of the first movie. You can call it twee but I loved it, as did my two daughters.

We would get a big bucket of popcorn and all curl up on the settee under a blanket. Perfect for a winter's evening, when the wind is howling and rain teeming down outside.

I might have to veto Frozen, which I could probably quote verbatim - the kids have watched it practically on repeat and I even find myself humming 'Let It Go!' - oh my... !

Thanks all, Val

Clockwise John Cleese. Think this is funniest file ever, suitable for all the family.I could watch it aa many times as I wanted.

It would have to be The Judge because it reminds you that life is too short and that you need to hold on to those you love!

Leah50 Fri 20-Mar-15 01:51:36

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, just because the film is almost as good as the book.

PRINTMISS Fri 20-Mar-15 08:22:40

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, great songs, great dancing, and real good feelings, and I like it!

kattypuss Fri 20-Mar-15 08:24:34

Tea with Mussolini.
This is supposed to be the true story of director Franco Zeffirelli's own childhood. In 1936, with the Nazis loose in Germany and the Fascists loose in Italy, the young director finds himself left in the care of a Jewish-American millionairess and three eccentric British women. It features Oscar-winners Judi Dench and Cher and other fine actors. Very funny and, yet, upliftingly sad. Wonderful Florence Art, Music and, of course, Florence itself.
I have seen this film many times but would be happy to see over and over. I LOVE this film. flowers

It would have to be 'Lawrence of Arabia' for so many reasons.
I skived an afternoon off work to go and see it, shortly after the premiere, at the Odeon Leicester Square. I got in trouble with my boss, but 'Lawrence' was so worth it.
I'd never been in such a big cinema before. The size of the screen amazed me and the sounds of the women wailing as their men rode out to fight echoed around the cinema making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
I fell completely in love with Peter O'Toole that day and was a huge fan until his death.
I've been to see 'Lawrence' in many places since, but the best was watching it screened on the gable end of a friend's house over the course of a long, hot and wine-soaked Summer evening is my most memorable.
I would invite everyone I love to come and watch my private screening; there'd be plenty of ice-cream which we'd wash down with gin and tonic and raise our glasses to a truly Great British film! sunshine sunshine sunshine

Pitch Perfect because it makes me smile every time I watch it

sallyc06 Fri 20-Mar-15 08:56:35

Down Periscope starring Lauren Holly. My huisband goes into hysterics everytime the 'farting' scene comes on!!

mazgoli Fri 20-Mar-15 09:20:48

Pollyanna. My boys always were annoyed when their sisters wanted to watch it as children. Such a wonderful feel-good movie, don't see their problem! So to have them all watch it together again now they're grown ups and perhaps play the 'Glad Game' afterwards. That would really be something.

dani4 Fri 20-Mar-15 09:40:20

I would screen Mrs Doubtfire, the best funny/sad film ever by the wonderful late Robin Williams, fantastic!

sarah2000h Fri 20-Mar-15 09:48:37

I'd screen Paddington. It's great for all the family, it's funny and ends with that Feel Good factor. Perfect!

greenfinger5 Fri 20-Mar-15 09:54:14

That's a tough one! think it would be 'Independence day' we all liked that film. so many to choose from. ;)

purplehairstreak Fri 20-Mar-15 10:00:43

I'd screen Casblanca. Classic, black and white, compelling story, great photography and of course, "Play it Sam, play it again" so all those I invited would be able to join in and sing.

I'd suggest in my invitations that people might like to dress up in war time-themed outfits, and of course, I'd have some cocktails to serve from my own version of "Rick's Bar" before and after the screening.

As my guests arrived they would have to say the correct password ("gin joints") to be admitted. Then we would all settle down to enjoy this enduring and timeless classic. Tissues would be provided.

adrisco Fri 20-Mar-15 10:44:11

Bambi - I shed tears as a child and I'm shedding them again now when I watch the film with my granddaughters.

harryt22 Fri 20-Mar-15 11:50:10

We would watch the film cool runnings. The cinema seat would be a giant bobsled in which we would all watch the film from! Book now for your seat on the bobsled!!

sunseeker Fri 20-Mar-15 13:01:36

Has to be Usual Suspects - great story, great acting and a twist at the end.

willow5 Fri 20-Mar-15 13:29:52

A Man for all Seasons, I saw this over 40 years ago. I had a dreadful cold, and had to blow my nose constantly. It was the first date I had with the man who is my husband ( the red shinny nose did not put him off). It brings back lovely memories of our courting years.

simone1 Fri 20-Mar-15 14:16:42

pretty woman because its everyones dream to get swept off there feet by a prince

nanahil Fri 20-Mar-15 14:52:06

It's so hard to decide on just one film. A lot of the films already mentioned would make it onto my (not very short) shortlist.
Ultimately, I'd probably chose The Graduate because it was my first real 'grown-up' film. I remember going to see it and feeling I'd been to see a film as an adult, not a child, for the first time. I loved (and still do) the Simon and Garfunkle soundtrack.

jt75 Fri 20-Mar-15 15:16:26

The Sound of Music. It looks great on a big screen and we could all dress up and singalong.

Darienne Fri 20-Mar-15 15:23:45

I would show ALL 3 of the Back to The Future movies with no gaps in between

MrsJ2000 Fri 20-Mar-15 15:28:00

it has to be a Christmas movie called Miracle on 34th Street
not the old black and white movie but the remake with Sir Richard Attenborough
It's a real feed good movie that all the family can enjoy and it makes me smile every time I watch it

Maggiemaybe Fri 20-Mar-15 15:59:33

It would have to be The Neverending Stoooooory, the theme tune of which still jangles in my poor brain nearly 30 years after being forced to listen to it again, and again, and again, and again - my daughters and their friends just couldn't get enough of it.

I would invite them all round, set it up on a loop, dim the lights and tiptoe out to the pub for the evening, locking the door behind me. Revenge is sweet! grin
