To celebrate National Poetry Day we're running an absolutely fantastic competition with Nick Sharratt. Win yourself a signed copy of his newly released first ever collection of poetry, Vikings in the Supermarket as well as an exclusive signed print from the book. Two runners up will also each receive a signed copy of the book.
To enter, all you have to do is write a poem for your grandchild/ren - happy, silly, emotional, educational, whatever you think would entertain them - and post it on this thread.
Competition closes at midday on Thurs 22nd Oct.

In addition to illustrating books for several top children's authors, most notably Jacqueline Wilson, Nick has written and illustrated more than 40 books himself. He has won numerous prizes for his work, was the official World Book Day illustrator in 2006 and his picture books include You Choose, Pants, Shark in the Park, Elephant Wellyphant and Eat Your Peas. www.nicksharratt.com

HQ Will you be publishing the winning poem any time soon? (I know I was a runner-up blush) but it would be lovely to read the No.1 poem and congratulate the winner whoever she/he may be .......

Thank you so much for the lovely book and signed print. I was at my son's house for the birth of my new granddaughter when the parcel arrived, perfectly timed as it will go on the bookshelf in the newly decorated bedroom. A lovely gift for my Granddaughter Sienna, now I will have to write one for new baby Darcie ....

Apologies for the delay...

The winner is: For My Granddaughter Sienna by Mumble

^Mummy there's a monster I saw it on the stair!
Darling.. that's just Nana, with rollers in her hair

it's face is white as snow and its mouth is all screwed up!
Darling.. it's just wrinkle cream, and her teeth are in a cup

It's walking really slowly and it wobbles now and then
Darling.. Nana's knees are weak and her back has gone again

Its definitely a monster it it's making such a din
She singing you a little song as she comes to tuck you in

I can the monster clearly now ....it's walking through my door
Yes its only Nana!!! I'm not scared anymore.^

Runners-up: Geordie ditty by Micmc47 and Barney by Marmight
