A sauce, a sausage, a pie and a butcher Duke?*

To enter, simply:
- Find your own local site here
- Then click on My Sites (pink button on right hand side) to add yourself to that specific Local site.

Finally, post the answer on this thread by 5pm Friday 4 November.

The winner (a correct answer chosen at random) will win this lovely bundle of books including Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories, BBC Radio 4's The Seasons and I never knew that about Britain - The Quiz Book by Christopher Winn (from which the question was taken).

Usual Ts and Cs apply.

Argyll & Bute isn't a county.

thatbags Thu 03-Nov-16 17:22:47

Neither is Highlands and Islands, or Tayside. Etc. Just saying. 'Area' or 'region' would perhaps be less Anglocentric.

Ana Thu 03-Nov-16 17:27:31

But that wasn't the question, those are just local sites.

I don't understand why we have to add ourselves to any local site if we're supposed to put the answer on this thread...confused

I expect it's so they can compile a database of which members are in which area Ana so they can bombard us with info tell us what's happening in our local area.
Am I right Lara? wink

Ana Thu 03-Nov-16 17:48:35

Yes, I did suspect it might be a rather sneaky way of getting us to join our local site jane.

But bearing in mind how many 'compers' usually enter these competitions there are going to be some misleading figures on that database I fear! grin

The Highlands council would like to think Highlands and Islands is a county and on Pointless a few weeks ago they said Sutherland is no longer a county. But I live here and I disagree. Sutherland is alive and kicking .

Tizliz Thu 03-Nov-16 17:51:12

I suppose I will have to say I am in Highlands and Islands.

SueDonim Thu 03-Nov-16 18:50:15

Jalima Thu 03-Nov-16 19:10:10

well, I am just confused

Is Cumberland still counted as a county?

Jalima Thu 03-Nov-16 19:11:43

They're looking for new local editors grin

Ana Thu 03-Nov-16 19:32:02

I dunno Jalima, I was just answering the competition question! grin

Also, according to jud, Irish people don't regard themselves as British, but I presume there could be local sites in Northern Ireland. Are the old Ulster counties still used? S'pose I ought to go and look at the list...

Backsun.

rosesarered Thu 03-Nov-16 20:40:07

Cumberland sausage, but what about the other two?

rosesarered Thu 03-Nov-16 20:41:08

Sauce? butcher Duke?

Ana Thu 03-Nov-16 20:42:38

I thought there was one answer which applied to all. There are Cumberland pies, aren't there? And there was a Duke of Cumberland...
