Why do you travel? What drives you to venture far from home and see sights you've never seen before?

Collette have spent the last 100 years taking people all over the world, and along the way they've learned that travel isn’t about the places you go. It’s about you and your reasons for going.

And everyone has different reasons. They can be big - a promise to a loved one, fulfilling a lifetime goal. But they can also be small - the blue water in Capri or the cuisine in France.

The reason doesn’t have to be happy for the trip to be important and fulfilling. In fact, the most powerful reasons probably won’t be. But they will be personal, deep, meaningful and maybe even surprising.

As the longest-running tour operator in North America, Collette has provided guided travel for 100 years. With trips to all seven continents, Collette’s guests fulfil their deepest travel aspirations in a variety of ways with travel styles that are diversified to suit every traveller’s personal style.

So, for the chance to win a £300 voucher, tell us - what's your reason for travel?

I travel because I retired early and we had plans to travel. But health restrictions mean my partner is house bound more than we planned to be. Having four week-long holidays a year minimise the boredom for him. As long as I book all-inclusive resorts we can cope with the travelling. We will continue to travel for as long as we can.

I like to travel to have a break from everyday life. Not that my life is bad, but a change of scenery is a good thing. I just wish I had more time and money to do it more often!

I like to travel to spend time with family and see and experience new places.

I travel to see new countries and meet new people. I love the history and beauty of each new place. I also love to relax by a beautiful beach or pool and enjoy all places, including the UK. It is also a chance to spend quality time with my husband/family without all the every day things getting in the way. New York in December to see the tree in the Rockerfeller Centre, which is a dream of mine, and to soak up the Christmas atmosphere, as I love Christmas! Obviously, we will visit other famous sights but the 9/11 memorial will be a sad and reflective part, but something I also really want to do - a way of paying my respects and remembering. Travel can evoke many feelings and this is also a large part of travel for me.

I travelled a bit in the early years of marriage, but since my divorce I haven't been able to afford to travel much, especially as I can only go in school holidays as I work in a school. I'm looking forward to retirement to make up for lost time while my health is still good enough. Meeting new people, both fellow travellers and locals, trying new foods and seeing places previously only read about in books is a way of broadening ones horizons and fulfilling dreams.

Used to love our holidays on Greek Islands but now that we're older the travel insurance is so expensive that we now confine our trips to UK city breaks and visiting family members.

I travel for Adventure

First adventure with our children was on a small plane going over to the Isles of scilly.
My then 5yr old daughter said 'I can see the sea through the floor mummy'
I looked down and realised she was right the plane's floor was pop
rivited and had a large one missing!
Our trip although close to home sparked a little wonderlust in my soul and we endeavoured to travel as much as we could with our childern.

Our travels took us around UK as well as abroad.

Now I long for a camper van to take my Grandchildren on exciting adventures.⛽?⛽?

Why do I travel? Because there's a lot of world out there. It's so exciting to see new countries and new cultures. What's that old saying? Travels broadens the mind. Yes, I believe it does. And not only that. Whenever we travel we meet new people. We have so many friends that we met on holiday and we still keep in touch. If we had never travelled, we wouldn't know half so many people and that would be a tragedy!

I love to see new places and experience different cultures. I think I have wanderlust because I am always looking for my next adventure!

Vhall254 Sat 15-Sept-18 13:00:28

To see places so different from sights in my hometown, to meet people and to increase my knowledge. Also to try new foods!

The fear of the known is infinitely worse than the fear of the unknown.

leanfun Sat 15-Sept-18 12:10:05

I love meeting new people. Trying new food and leaning about different people and how they live

wendycl Sat 15-Sept-18 11:12:21

I love my home, but it lifts my spirits to be by the sea or lake and of course to have the sun in the winter time.

Lazigirl Fri 14-Sept-18 21:16:38

I travel to forget, for a short time the stresses of everyday life, and to enjoy different experiences whilst it is still possible. Life is short.

SHORTMAN Fri 14-Sept-18 21:01:05

We travel to meet new people and get a flavour of their way life. We also love to try new food experiences.

cheekychicken24 Fri 14-Sept-18 20:58:24

I love to visit places I've read about, or seen in films. It's always nice to see somewhere on screen that you've actually walked through yourself! Even if it'd just to say 'they must've filmed hat at 5am to be that quiet!'

Helenlouise3 Fri 14-Sept-18 19:47:23

We are now at an age where we can afford to travel and see places we've only seen on tv or in books. We just love new experiences of any kind and hearing different languages/tasting different foods and experiencing different cultures is fast becoming a way of life. We intend broadening our horizons, for as long our health allows us to.

grannysmith953 Fri 14-Sept-18 18:34:31

Beautiful scenery, interesting plants and animals, different food - just to see and experience as much as I can, preferably in the sun!

Lydia58 Fri 14-Sept-18 17:21:37

I want to travel to see the world through my eyes. Create memories, to touch the past, gasp in awe and wonder at amazing scenery , colours, smells and people. I want to walk where our ancesters have walked but most of all I want to travel because the world is changing and I want to see
so much of it before it does .

TeresaC Fri 14-Sept-18 17:06:44

I read avidly as a child (and still do!) - everything - greek mythology, biographies, history, novels set in foreign lands and I longed to see them all for real, so my travels take me to see the stories of my books.

Grandmother1234 Fri 14-Sept-18 16:29:22

I travel because I’m on my own all year it’s nice to get away from it all

Angelwings Fri 14-Sept-18 15:41:43

I love to travel because it gives me new perspectives on things. I meet new people, I have new experiences and I see new sights. It’s challenging, exciting and tiring but I really think it makes me a better person, plus it’s fun.

nannygoose Fri 14-Sept-18 15:37:43

My parents always regretted not being able to travel, so I don’t want to feel the same!
