Why do you travel? What drives you to venture far from home and see sights you've never seen before?

Collette have spent the last 100 years taking people all over the world, and along the way they've learned that travel isn’t about the places you go. It’s about you and your reasons for going.

And everyone has different reasons. They can be big - a promise to a loved one, fulfilling a lifetime goal. But they can also be small - the blue water in Capri or the cuisine in France.

The reason doesn’t have to be happy for the trip to be important and fulfilling. In fact, the most powerful reasons probably won’t be. But they will be personal, deep, meaningful and maybe even surprising.

As the longest-running tour operator in North America, Collette has provided guided travel for 100 years. With trips to all seven continents, Collette’s guests fulfil their deepest travel aspirations in a variety of ways with travel styles that are diversified to suit every traveller’s personal style.

So, for the chance to win a £300 voucher, tell us - what's your reason for travel?

Life is short & the world is like a book, if I don't travel it feels like I have only read one page.

To see my Daughters and Grandchildren that is my soul purpose of Travel, i miss them so much

I have several reasons for travelling, and all are important. I have family on the other side of the world so seeing them is a driving force. When not visiting them I enjoy seeing new things, learning about different cultures and generally having fun. Nothing comes close to watching the sun come up over a strange landscape while listening to the myriad sounds of birds and animals waking up or a town/city coming to life. Walking streets I’ve never walked before is always a thrill, trying different foods (even if I don’t like them) is an experience I don’t want to miss. My dad never left England and the only place my mum visited was Scotland, I swore I would see more of the world. I’ve lost count of the places I’ve visited, but there are still at least a dozen more I intend to see before I pop my clogs. There are also place in England on my bucket list, so I had best stop typing this and go and get on with it.

I’ve been teaching for 40 years and so had to stick to certain school holidays to travel. Now retired we can travel the world and we are up to over 100 countries now. It is a worthwhile luxury as we love to see and hear about other cultures and customs and of course meet lots of wonderful people.

I travel to open all 5 senses to new things and new possibilities.

Since conducting family history research I have found some family members in far-flung places. Whenever possible, and if they can't come and visit me, I like to travel to their location to meet them.

1st husband was so mean he wouldn’t pay for us to go anywhere. 2nd husband was a spendthrift, no money sense and spent every single penny we had, so I didn’t go anywhere for nearly 10 years. Now aged 66, footloose and fancy free, my wanderlust is in overdrive and am working thro my bucket list with a vengeance .... now I am flying solo I’m flying higher than I ever have before, in every sense of the words !!

Money is quite tight but I still find it quite exciting to jump in the car with a packed lunch and see where we end up. We've had some wonderful adventures, mainly on the spur of the moment both here and abroad. It makes me feel more alive and helps me to forget my troubles for a while.

Solely for the Scenery, we have just returned from a Fjords Cruise and the Scenery was absolutely stunning, our next adventure is to the Caribbean & Mexico. Hope to see Cochin Itza.

To see and experience new things

I travel to see friends and relations up north in Cheshire and over in North Wales. But also enjoy the holiday as well. Then we go over to Malta once a year which is our main holiday, where we like it the best and the locals are nice to get on with.

I'd love to travel to see something of the world while I still can having spent the last 30+ years raising my 4 sons with the last of them due to move out soon

LynnKnowles Thu 13-Sept-18 14:30:45

Now we are retired, we travel because we can and it's great to up and spread our wings, visiting new places, but as our family is far flung we travel to visit them.

Isobelw Thu 13-Sept-18 14:22:14

I just love the excitement of seeing different places, hearing different languages, tasting different food and meeting a lot of different people.

marpau Thu 13-Sept-18 13:23:39

We travel to learn different cultures now we are retired we don't have work pressures so take time to learn new things as often as possible. We always buy something small to hang on our Christmas tree so every year we relive lots of memories.

lovelynan Thu 13-Sept-18 13:10:34

I travel because I love the experience of learning about different cultures, but also realising that we have more in common than what divides us as human beings. Travel broadens the mind.

katieskatie82 Thu 13-Sept-18 10:49:03

i travel because i love learning more about peoples customs and cultures x

Morgie52 Thu 13-Sept-18 10:23:24

I like to travel to experience all things new - places, people, food, culture etc.

obag Thu 13-Sept-18 09:58:39

I travel because I want to experience new things.

kittykomp Wed 12-Sept-18 21:34:10

to explore the world

naomicm Wed 12-Sept-18 21:10:22

I travel infrequently due to finances, but when I do I love to explore the history, see things I wouldn't usually see, try food I wouldn't usually eat and meet different people. I see photos of places that inspired me to go, I generally base my next travel plans on a place in a photo.

Dormouse1940 Wed 12-Sept-18 21:07:36

I love learning, and travel is one of the most challenging, rewarding and immersive experiences we can have.
Different cultures, hearing different languages and music, the sights and smells of somewhere completely new. And the FOOD of course! I've been introduced to some wonderful dishes and flavour combinations that I now incorporate into my home cooking, which has not only made me a much more adventurous chef but it's helped me to really enjoy cooking.
Travel really does broaden the mind. I'd be a full time globetrotter if only I could afford it!
