Why do you travel? What drives you to venture far from home and see sights you've never seen before?

Collette have spent the last 100 years taking people all over the world, and along the way they've learned that travel isn’t about the places you go. It’s about you and your reasons for going.

And everyone has different reasons. They can be big - a promise to a loved one, fulfilling a lifetime goal. But they can also be small - the blue water in Capri or the cuisine in France.

The reason doesn’t have to be happy for the trip to be important and fulfilling. In fact, the most powerful reasons probably won’t be. But they will be personal, deep, meaningful and maybe even surprising.

As the longest-running tour operator in North America, Collette has provided guided travel for 100 years. With trips to all seven continents, Collette’s guests fulfil their deepest travel aspirations in a variety of ways with travel styles that are diversified to suit every traveller’s personal style.

So, for the chance to win a £300 voucher, tell us - what's your reason for travel?

Its nice to see other cultures and different scenery. Getting to see how others live and how different it is to your own life is a real experience.

To try different foods, experience different cultures, to see something of natural beauty or historical significance.

To eat amazing food, drink lovely wine, and see everything I can.

Travel is education, it's experiences, memories, and it grows you as a person. It's also usually really good fun and I'd always rather have a memory full of stories to recount to my loved ones than drawers full of valuables.

I travel to see new places and meet new people, and well a change of scenery is so grounding for appreciating everyone around me and my own scenery.

Travelling is so enjoyable, to see both the good, and the less fortunate in their own surroundings. To experience wonderful sights, sounds and aromas is a privilege best shared with a loved one to recall memories for years to come.

Simple really. Life is too short not to grab every moment.

I just love looking at new places and talking to people who live there; learning about their way of life and the history of the area. I especially like it when the people I am talking with want to know about how things are done in the UK so it is a real cultural exchange of knowledge. A place doesn't have to be especially beautiful to make it interesting, its the people who do that.

I haven't travelled abroad for a few years. When I travel in the UK it is either to visit family or to relax on holiday.

Meeting new people with different ways of life to us, trying new cultures. We've adopted lots from our travels, from food to interiors to habits. We can learn so much when we get off the island!

To get away from the everyday life in a busy city, to go to remote places with glorious countryside and wildlife.

I just love trying out my scant knowledge of Italian , German and French and getting to know the local people .

Emlouise17 Tue 11-Sept-18 19:07:54

I love travel to experience new cultures, and to escape from my every day life.

When my brothers and I were children, a sail across the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man was considered to be going abroad!

As children, we loved being on the beach, paddling, building sand castles, and ball games. Also loved rides on trams exploring the island.

Now as adults, we prefer travelling to see historic monuments and sights, beautiful scenery, and try different cousines. Our travels have mainly been to Italy, Belgium, and other European countries, but we love exploring places we haven't previously seen.

I travel to to relax and spend quality time with my family

Adult life travelling was curtailed by expense of holidays in school holiday time and eventually by cost of gettting a family of 5 abroad. DH strokes after 60 meant long haul travelling was still impossible. Finally 10 years on he is well enough to travel and we love seeing the places and people we planned to. In the last year we have seen wild animals in South Africa, the Last Post at the Menin Gate and most recently, humpback whales in Canada. Wonderful memories to make for our even older years!

To discover new places and cultures and to try new food and drink

mrscake1 Tue 11-Sept-18 17:59:44

I travel as much as I can as I want to see all the members of my family who have moved to lots of different parts of the world. I have a very large family and I plan to see them all before I am too old to do so.

towser44 Tue 11-Sept-18 17:49:13

To experience as many different cultures as possible!

vixxx666 Tue 11-Sept-18 17:28:33

I love making new memories and trying new things!

beelzebomb Tue 11-Sept-18 17:10:55

To take pictures and be on my own and relaxed and completely anonymous, somewhere no-one knows me.

israrbaig Tue 11-Sept-18 17:07:07

To get out of the house and see what others have builded

strawberrinan Tue 11-Sept-18 16:47:35

The reason I travel is because my husband and I worked hard before retiring and it was the thought of travel that kept us going! It keeps us young and it's amazing meeting new people and seeing new sights.
