Why do you travel? What drives you to venture far from home and see sights you've never seen before?

Collette have spent the last 100 years taking people all over the world, and along the way they've learned that travel isn’t about the places you go. It’s about you and your reasons for going.

And everyone has different reasons. They can be big - a promise to a loved one, fulfilling a lifetime goal. But they can also be small - the blue water in Capri or the cuisine in France.

The reason doesn’t have to be happy for the trip to be important and fulfilling. In fact, the most powerful reasons probably won’t be. But they will be personal, deep, meaningful and maybe even surprising.

As the longest-running tour operator in North America, Collette has provided guided travel for 100 years. With trips to all seven continents, Collette’s guests fulfil their deepest travel aspirations in a variety of ways with travel styles that are diversified to suit every traveller’s personal style.

So, for the chance to win a £300 voucher, tell us - what's your reason for travel?

I like to travel to see new places, experience different cultures and to have fun. I'm off to China soon and can't wait!

I like to travel as it gives me the opportunity to see new places and experience different cultures.

I also think that travel 'broadens the mind' and helps to break down the barriers which can prevent us from knowing what different races are really like. You see so much on the television about different cultures but it is not until you actually visit another country that you can really understand the people who live there.

I have been to Japan where I found the people quite shy and reserved.I found Americans polite and well- mannered which is not the way they are often portrayed in the press.

I usually only travel to see family who are spread out all over the uk - we only all get together for weddings and funerals! Because of finances my trips are locally on the buses

Many years ago, I came across the following quotation from Mark Twain. I've travelled all over the world since then and it continues to inspire me.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

I travel because i've spent decades raising my children and have been divorced for 15 years of that time. My youngest finished university and I felt the need to see places I had never seen before. I've been all over Europe in my small RV and have loved every moment. It has given me a new lease on life.

We're up to around 80 countries visited, so I guess the main reason is to see the world and to experience different cultures.

I travel for different reasons. Sometimes to relax, sometimes to explore and enjoy the culture and cuisine.

I travel to be inspired and spend time relaxing with my family. It's nice to get out of routine and unwind in new surroundings whilst meeting new people and exploring different places.

Usually for a day out. To see somewhere new, or to visit friends and family.

Happiyogi Tue 11-Sept-18 13:45:17

For the revitalising thrill of the new!

This may sound silly, and i probably won't be able to explain very eloquently but I love looking at things! I take delight in the aesthetic of a view, of the scenery, the coast, the countryside. I feel stressed at home as I know there's a hundred things I should be doing but whilst travelling I know I'm there purely to enjoy myself.

I love to travel, to see new sights and cultures. To view the beautiful sights that this world and man have created. To taste the food from different countries, and experience new cultures.

I travel because I love seeing different vistas of the world... My next trip is going to be around S. E. Asia

cathwarbur Tue 11-Sept-18 12:02:38

I travel because I want to see as much of our own country & the world as I can. Love the differences in culture and enjoy meeting the locals, plus it gets me out of the house

cherylann2461 Tue 11-Sept-18 11:49:30

I love to see how other people live and try all the different foods.

giddyypixie Tue 11-Sept-18 11:32:17

I love to explore new places with my family - try different cuisines (we are such a foodie family!), experience different cultures and in general, just making lasting memories.

NotSpaghetti Tue 11-Sept-18 11:23:33

I love to travel. It’s usually to somewhere a little warmer but not always - mainly it’s lovely to be away from home where all the little “jobs” are irrelevant.
I love the relaxation this brings, the pleasure of discovering other people’s ways, new places, meeting new people.
I love the way I notice the beauty of places more (both whilst away and when back home) and I love that a holiday gives us the opportunity to just be together, peacefully.
What a joy and a privilege it is to be able to take a break from the “everyday”.

finleypop Tue 11-Sept-18 11:12:39

I travel to escape my day to day life & experience a different way to live for just a short time

Olive1820 Tue 11-Sept-18 11:05:24

To get away from the kids .......

lizd31 Tue 11-Sept-18 11:03:58

Sadly due to health & disability issues I can no longer travel on holiday. The only place I go is up north to visit my family but I have to get a taxi which costs over £200 each time so I don't get to see them very often
