Why do you travel? What drives you to venture far from home and see sights you've never seen before?

Collette have spent the last 100 years taking people all over the world, and along the way they've learned that travel isn’t about the places you go. It’s about you and your reasons for going.

And everyone has different reasons. They can be big - a promise to a loved one, fulfilling a lifetime goal. But they can also be small - the blue water in Capri or the cuisine in France.

The reason doesn’t have to be happy for the trip to be important and fulfilling. In fact, the most powerful reasons probably won’t be. But they will be personal, deep, meaningful and maybe even surprising.

As the longest-running tour operator in North America, Collette has provided guided travel for 100 years. With trips to all seven continents, Collette’s guests fulfil their deepest travel aspirations in a variety of ways with travel styles that are diversified to suit every traveller’s personal style.

So, for the chance to win a £300 voucher, tell us - what's your reason for travel?

For excitement and to get out of a rut. I realised if I didn't get out of the house soon I would end up too afraid to venture back to my beloved Greece after a gap of nearly 20 years. I went on a writing retreat and loved it so much I went back alone this year to Crete and found so much inspiration for my next book.

Since retiring 5 years ago, I have travelled to China, India, Turkey, Egypt, South Africa, Crete, Sicily, and several other places in Europe and the UK. I'm trying to make the longer journeys while I am still fit and able. I just love the experience of different cultures, meeting other people from different cultures and trying different types of food and drink. I think travel widens my horizons, and keeps me alert physically and mentally. I am so lucky that I can afford to travel and have a wonderful partner to keep me company. I have been stunned by the beauty of so many places, and have discovered so much about the history of mankind from seeing Greek and Roman ruins. Travel also gives me the incentive to learn and refresh foreign languages - and this has been shown to improve mental agility.

I travel to show my children the world and experience it through their eyes - places that I think I know well, they see new things and I see it afresh. Other places we discover and explore together. We love to try lots of different foods along the way.

I travel because it gives me a break for the routine, and allows me to see different things - things I wouldn't normally see...

I travel because now I can afford to and can visit all the places I once read about. I love to visit historic sites and wander around them and when I am away I can relax and do exctly what I want.

My favourite thing in the whole world is to travel, explore new cultures, food, meet new interesting people whom I never would if we didn't happen to be in a new environment.
I love hearing peoples stories, how they live. Most of the happiest people and places I have visited have been shared by people who have the least worldly goods, but the happiest of lives and are a joy to have met and been around. When we visit a new city we make a point of visiting the local tourist information as we don't want to miss a thing. We drive to a lot of places park up and explore by foot, and have chanced on some spectacular sights. It has also broadened my mind, and hopefully always will do smile

I travel as there is a big wide world out there and to experience the way other cultures live and act you have to see for yourself.

I like to travel to give two children the best memories I can. I didn’t get to experience it as a child so I’m glad they can

Lisapaige24 Thu 20-Sept-18 21:55:34

Myself and my husband like to visit other countries because we like to experience new places and because we’re looking for somewhere to live and settle down

I love to travel with my husband and our caravan, it is our time, home from home, parked in a field sometimes solitary, always relaxing. I am free to tour knowing that my familiar home is waiting. A holiday for me is to view different areas, walk, cycle, bird-watch, visit museums, mix with like-minded people and rest. It is the only way to retreat from the constant work at home - even though home is where the heart is and I am proud of all the work we have done.

I don't travel often, as it's too expensive, but when I do it's to spend time with family & friends.
