Why do you travel? What drives you to venture far from home and see sights you've never seen before?

Collette have spent the last 100 years taking people all over the world, and along the way they've learned that travel isn’t about the places you go. It’s about you and your reasons for going.

And everyone has different reasons. They can be big - a promise to a loved one, fulfilling a lifetime goal. But they can also be small - the blue water in Capri or the cuisine in France.

The reason doesn’t have to be happy for the trip to be important and fulfilling. In fact, the most powerful reasons probably won’t be. But they will be personal, deep, meaningful and maybe even surprising.

As the longest-running tour operator in North America, Collette has provided guided travel for 100 years. With trips to all seven continents, Collette’s guests fulfil their deepest travel aspirations in a variety of ways with travel styles that are diversified to suit every traveller’s personal style.

So, for the chance to win a £300 voucher, tell us - what's your reason for travel?

To see more of the world and explore and open my mind to new experiences and cultures.

Escapism from home life, eg housework, routine etc
Indulgence in the little treats as I can't allow myself to go over the top so a small lovely find or treat is always lovely indulgence when i reach the point in the holiday where i am relaxed and come across something of aurprise and delight the more expensive things I just marvel at .
The wow factor as you always come across somewhere which just blows you away as you don't expect it at least several times but it is still wow!
History, culture so so many things/reasons.

I travel to visit friends and family, to have adventures visiting exciting locations, or to get away from everyday life and chill out somewhere hot.

I loved the character-building adventures that came with backpacking when I was young.

These days, I only travel either to see family or for occasional city breaks. I choose destinations that I can enjoy on foot and which have beautiful art and craft. It gives me great pleasure to see the skill and creativity of artists and craftspeople in different countries.

To escape the British winter weather, to explore different countries and scenes, to see that there are other ways of living than the narrowly defined capitalist one we have here in the UK, to hear and practise different languages, to taste other cuisines .... So many reasons.

I love travelling because I like discovering new places, cultures and people.

To explore new places and cultures. I think it's especially important for children to see that places around the world are different to where we live yet the people who live there also have many similarities to us.

scabiantha Tue 18-Sept-18 18:48:22

It makes me feel alive to experience new things and meet new people.

carowood Tue 18-Sept-18 18:12:22

Seeing new places, meeting new people, learning about life and other people's lives so very different from our own. The world is such a fascinating place it is almost a crime not to travel as much as you possibly can.

I travel to Australia as my son, wife and two children aged 9 and 12 live on the outskirts of Adelaide. My daughter in law comes from Australia and her parents live quite nearby. After living in England for about 10 years they went to Australia and my son is now an Australian. I am almost 80 and usually have to travel alone. It would be wonderful if I could win this money and I may be able to travel with a little more comfort.

Because there so much more to this planet than the small area which I spend 99.9999% of my time in, and I want to appreciate the world beauty and wonderment

LizzieC Tue 18-Sept-18 15:45:59

To see how others live, see their country and eat their own food. As long as we are fit and able, we will travel, maybe not too far and maybe not for too long each time.

Tizliz Tue 18-Sept-18 15:44:53

I am not a traveller but will travel to see family. I don't like flying so prefer to drive. As it will take me 24 hours to recover from a journey I would never go on a package holiday.

CarlyM89 Tue 18-Sept-18 15:40:08

I love travelling to new countries to experience the culture, see new sights and taste new things.

craftergran Tue 18-Sept-18 15:20:22

I like to see different places, experience local food cooked by locals and attempt to speak their language.

We have attempted new recipes after visiting different places and tried to recreate the food at home from time to time. So it enriches our otherwise normal lives and diets too.

Anj123 Tue 18-Sept-18 15:11:01

I love to see places I haven’t been to before and try local food. I also have friends and family who live all over the world so I like to visit them too. I have recently been to Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Thailand!

MummyBtothree Tue 18-Sept-18 14:59:16

I've never been abroad as yet, which people always seem to find strange. I am too busy exploring this country first!.

rubysmoke Tue 18-Sept-18 14:51:30

there is so much history in this country that I have only read about so I go to places like Rievaulx Abbey to see and experience for myself

grandmac Tue 18-Sept-18 14:40:47

I like to experience different cultures and also to see beautiful places here and abroad.. Don’t like flying much so usually sail from U.K. these days and take family when I can.

When I was younger, we never went far, up the coast, so when I was older and could save I wanted to go to places that the culture was really different. We went to The Gambia, and we took pencils and rulers and things for the school, we also had a boat ride out to a tiny village, I have not got the photos to hand now, but Everyone had to pay to go in this village, the village head sat in a chair, and you had to put this money in her hand think it was about £10 each, and the shock horror when I went into one of the homes, and in grandmas room was a bed with palm leaves for a mattress, a few leaves on the floor, for a carpetand all her possesions a sewing machine, no cupboards or wardrobes for clothes nothing, then I went to the kitchen, a little fire in the middle of the floor with a couple of chickens running round, a woman was washing rice in a bowl of filthy water, her hands were so dirty, so I looked for a cooker or oven, plates, there was nothing. The shower was makeshift and there was no towels on the line drying, but a yellow old oil container with another part that they filled with cold water to wash your hair with No soap and when I showed friends, of pictures they all said, the same thing about the shock horror on my face. on the line drying, there were clothes on the washing lines but not very clean. No electric in the village at all, and then I thought where does all that money go trips every day from holiday makes for 2 weeks, then another place was chosen to visit for 2 weeks.. It was the same with the school, many people took pencils crayons and things to the school and again money donations were asked for as you went in, but still the children had no pencils and crayons Where did it all go . When I returned home, it was still troubling me, so I did some collections from my friends and family bought, pencils, sharpeners, rulers, crayons, balloons, and sent them every week for 6 weeks, and I thought I have done my bit. It was very similar in Marracheh we were took round the old side, no sanitation, no money or food, it was awful then the holiday side which is booming with holiday makers, you try and take a photo in the square, you have the men coming up to you telling you that you had to pay to take a photo. This is why I like to visit the different places to see how the half live, we are so well off in this country compared to other countries.

I love to find the unexpected! That pretty much sums it up. I often aim for something but then it always seems to be the thing/place I chance upon, stumble across , see when en route . I love the surprise of it and a kind of enchantment.
