Grandma Bird is a tale of compassion, bravery and unexpected adventure, and the new book by author illustrator Benji Davies. We have 15 copies to give away to celebrate Grandparents Day on 7 October.

To enter the competition, simply tell us... what's your favourite thing about being a grandparent?

As ever, you must be a registered Gransnet user to enter. Sign up to Gransnet HERE if you haven't done so already.

If you'd like to find out more about the book, you'll find details and T&Cs HERE. We will be picking our winners at random after 11am on 22 October.

The fact that all of my grandchildren have inherited my innate love of books and reading.

I'm not a gran, but my mum's favourite thing is exploring the countryside with my kids - they love all the outdoorsy stuff she's into.

Having the time to do wonderful things with them now I’m retired. Xx

My favourite nanan time is “sleepover night” when I get to do my silly, faces and voices whilst inventing magical stories for my 5 year old.

Just how much fun they bring into my life.

Story time, when me and my 3 year old grandson cuddle up and I tell him a story about a farmer called Peter and his tractor (who is a character I originally made up for his mother and her siblings). This farmer gets up to lots of adventures and, unlike books, it is a different and unique story every time. He even makes up his own little story about farmer Peter to tell me. It is such a special time for us, enjoying both cuddles and time spent together.

When they see me, they come running towards me very quickly and give me a kiss and a cuddle. They are very special grandchildren who light up my life.

My grandson is two years old and I love it when he kisses and hugs me good bye and then says 'uv oo game' (love you granny)

The cuddles and being able to do things I haven't done for years like making mud pies, lots of glueing and sticking and generally making a mess.

I remember my Sister in Law describing to me how having your first Grandchild and subsequent Grandchildren, was like having a hundred love affairs (hypothetically speaking of course, ha ha).

You are so completely and utterly in love so many times over. How right she was, such joy!!

Popping in, late, to this thread to say that the most wonderful moments are when two small arms snuggle around my neck and a little voice says 'I love you, Granny'.

When he starts off with a serious face, then a little smile, then his eyes light up and the giggle comes.
Like falling in love all over again??

My grandson's cheeky little grin

Enjoying the cheeky humour only children can bring

Having the time to spend listening to them chat, read and play, just chilling with them, never had that time for my own children, too busy keeping a roof over our heads sad

I am so lucky my grandchildren live near by so get to see them often, they are such a joy. I was working when my granddaughter was a baby, so time spent with her was more limited. I have 15 month twin grandsons now and look after them a couple of times a week. I can now go to pick my granddaughter from school, take her swimming, go to school plays and assemblies. Being retired certainly has it's bonuses. So it is precious time spent with them that is the best thing and the way their faces light up when they see me.

When I hear the little voice saying "I love you Grandma and can I come to your house and play with your toys, Please Grandma"

I have 9 grandchildren and love each and every one of them. When they run in and give a a big hug it touches my heart!

maganne Mon 08-Oct-18 13:02:35

I love picking them up from school and hearing all about their day. My kids always used to say "nothing" when asked

juliedee Mon 08-Oct-18 12:12:14

I looked after my pre-school granddaughter every Thursday. One day she was dropped off and her little face beamed as she said 'Granny, Thursdays are my favourite days'. I had to explain to her that Grannies sometimes cried with happiness

My grandson will not be born till December, so at the moment the best thing is the anticipation.

michelleblane Mon 08-Oct-18 11:21:20

I love the cuddles and hugs, and answering their amazing unusual questions !
