Best reads for Christmas - win £600 of books

My Christmas wish is for everyone to enjoy the season. I just wish I could think of something spectacular for hubby. However, im so looking forward to a celebration meal with my goddaughter and her family.....I spent serious time thinking about their presents.

Visiting our extended Yorkshire family and latest additions, baby boy and girl, I'll be taking Thomas the Tank and Beatrix Potter box sets....to help start their reading journey.

I have been reading Noel Fitzpatrick's book and am finding it very good, he really is on the side of the animals and his care and compassion shines through so thank goodness they have him in their corner. I am looking forward to seeing how my daughter's stepsons like the set of Roald Dahl books we have bought them for Christmas.

This seems very parochial compared to some of the contributions to this thread but our youngest dreams about being a professional pc gamer! He dreams of having a fancy set up - we can't give him that but we have got him a much better graphics card and I'm told that this will transform his gaming. I don't think he will believe it...

I am looking forward to seeing hubby's face when he opens the photo calendar I had made. Took me ages to choose just thirteen photos and arrange them digitally before ordering the calendar online. It looks rather good and will remind him of our super holiday this year.

I will be giving the gift of time this Christmas. I have two beautiful new grandchildren born four weeks apart so I have gifted my love patience and time to both of my daughters to help them. And also to my third daughter the gift of understanding as she has been recently diagnosed with the same illness as me. I am blessed, truly blessed

At the age of 64, this will be the first Christmas ever that I have not spent in my own home. We will be travelling across the country to stay with our son and family and are looking forward to sharing a very special time with our grandchildren as they open their presents on Christmas morning. I've made a Christmas cake to take with me along with some other festive treats and look forward to helping my lovely daughter in law with the meal preparations. We all plan to attend a Carol Service together on Christmas Eve to focus our minds on the true meaning of what Christmas is all about.

I'd love to be gifting my daughter the next Philip Pullman book this Christmas - she thoroughly enjoys his books - and looked forward to reading La Belle Sauvage - we pre-ordered it - but unfortunately it is not published until after Christmas. I have however bought her for Christmas this year a copy of Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman which I know she will love, and The Last Tudor by Philippa Gregory - and also a truly appropriate book for Christmas - Tudor Christmas by Alison Weir - not a recently published book I know but I had never heard of it - and she is currently studying the Tudors - so I just know that when she rips the paper off this book she will be delighted!

It's going to be the first time I'm hosting Christmas, so I'm hoping I give everyone a great day full of food, drink, and fond memories!

We are looking forward to gifting a selection of Schleich animals to our first grandson who is 2 years old ...an eBay Woolly Mammoth with baby, tiger, rhino and brown bear. Plus knitted comforter for bump due in May.

Our daughter and her husband, who are both very socially aware, have asked us to give them a "Toilet twinning" present, which my wife and I are very pleased to do (having two ourselves). It is a good gift to give to those who do not really need any more material presents for their home or personal use as it funds the provision of sanitary facilities in countries where such basic requirements are lacking. It raises the standard of hygiene and toilet privacy (particularly important to women in rural communities). If you would be interested in making a similar gift to someone you know, the means of doing so are very easy to find using any search engine.

The best gift I will be giving is a crochet dragon stitch cot blanket for my first grandchild. Woohoo!!!

I've got my partner gig tickets which will be a TOTAL surprise for him, so I think maybe I'm most looking forward to giving him them

I am giving my daughter a heart shaped bird bath. She used to collect heart shaped stones from the beach and put them in a row on her dressing table when she was small.For her wedding she had decorated heart shapes at the end of the pews. Her friends & family had decorated them at her hen party.

I always give photographs from the year just gone to the family and love revisiting the memories!

Im most looking forward to giving the advent calendar that I made. I think they will love it.

We'll be taking a couple of gifts to my Mother who is in a care home and then having our dinner with her and the other dementia sufferers. It maybe the last christmas that she remembers who we are.
