It's that time of year again (hurrah) and time for our best reads for Christmas page...great gift ideas to cater for every taste. Recommendations include fiction, non-fiction, cookery, quizzes and more.

And one very lucky person can win the lot...worth almost £600.

Simply tell us on this thread which gift you are most looking forward to giving this Christmas. It can be big, small, homemade, expensive or free. After all, it's the thought that counts.

Usual Gransnet terms and conditions apply. A winner will be drawn at random at midday on Wednesday 12 December.

I'm looking forward to giving my better half a Bonne Maman Advent Calendar (with 23 exclusive conserves & marmalades + a special Christmas Eve surprise) tomorrow so he can have tasty toast for breakfast everyday - he has been saying he's bored with cereal and prefers something warm in winter. I think he needs to start the day with something hot, especially as he is outdoors a lot and can be found scaling tall trees in the rain, freezing cold. I might even join him for breakfast as I'm curious as to what is in the calendar too - a sharing gift! Also, the gift of company and good food for a few friends that would otherwise be alone on Xmas - we usually end up with a few waifs and strays, mates whose relationships fell apart right before Xmas etc. Our 2 cats get spoilt. We've often had animal visitors when family have left their dog with us to enable them to go away for the holidays. The other gifts we love giving every year are for our garden wildlife: the birds and squirrels get extra treats and the fox family pretty much get a proper Xmas dinner each! We make a donation to Second Chance Animal Rescue, usually cash, but if we have any vouchers or goods they can use directly for the animals or as raffle prizes/items they can sell at fundraisers etc then we donate them too.

The best gift I'll give this year is two relaxing CDs of Classical Music to my two new and very dear friends who both work so extremely hard in their day to day lives, caring for elderly and ill relatives, plus girl guiding activities and groups, fundraising, work, etc. They wear me out just listening! So I saw CDs with classical music tailored to each of their hobbies, baking for one, sewing and knitting for the other. I may not be able to see their faces, but I hope they'll really enjoy their CDs sent with all my love and best wishes for their physical and mental wellbeing.

A copy of 'The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test' by Tom Woolfe for a dear friend of mine. I have been trying to think of a book for him for months! This forms part of an advent calendar I have made for he and his wife _ all silly presents, some home made/promises to make - they have been having a really rotten time of it recently and I wanted to make them smile at least once every day!

I am looking forward to giving my husband his new Kindle. Personally I prefer a proper book, but he likes to read on devices (and it leaves more room on the bookcases for me!)

I'm looking forward to my colleague opening her Secret Santa present at work as I know she'll love it - it's the perfect Christmas bauble for the tree.

I will be sending my SIL a cheque and I know she will use it to buy food for Christmas lunch for the children. I dread to think what they would have on the table otherwise. It will brighten up Christmas for them.

The gift I am looking forward to give is a rock I have painted of someone's new home. I have spent ages painting it and look forward to seeing their faces when they open it.

The present I am most looking forward to giving is for my husband. A weekend away with tickets to see his beloved football team play one of their main rivals. He hasn’t seen them play for years as we live so far away. The game also falls on a ‘big’ birthday for him. He’ll be as excited as a little boy ???⚽️

I am most looking forward to giving my DGD a beautiful flippy sequin dress which I know she will absolutely love (and I got it half-price so that’s always a bonus!)

This Christmas i am most looking forward to giving the gift of togetherness to my husband, father and children. We will be back in our family home together for the first time in over 10 years. It will be a wonderful reunion.

I'm looking forward to giving my brother in law his Strictly Come Dancing Annual - he couldn't understand my and my sister's addiction when he first arrived from Australia, but now he's as gripped as we are, although trying to appear more nonchalant and as though he's just joining in to be sociable

I am looking forward to seeing the grandchildren, and their parents at Christmas, then relaxing when they have all gone and enjoying the peace and quiet, and the memories.

I have always bought my sons at least one book for Christmas and am always on the look out for something I think they will love or that will make them laugh. They are now grown up and we buy for our grandson too who also loves his books. I think books are the best gift to give - and to receive too. I am sure we can all remember much loved books and stories from our childhood.

One of my friends is a Westie lover so I've bought some gifts with Westies on them for her. However, my favourite out of all these gifts is a Westie mug. Its brilliant! Believe it or not though, I've also bought some Westie Christmas Gift Wrap and I like that as much as the presents!

I am looking forward to giving my granddaughter and her fiance a hostess warming tray. They love inviting people to their house for meals but they have trouble keeping the food hot after dishing it up. This will help them a lot.

Looking forward to our phone call (4.30am last year) to say Santa's been!?

Also going to visit my youngest grandson next weekend (fingers crossed) who due to distance we dont see very often. We will be 'smuggling' in our presents for him to be hidden away until the big day.?
