It's that time of year again (hurrah) and time for our best reads for Christmas page...great gift ideas to cater for every taste. Recommendations include fiction, non-fiction, cookery, quizzes and more.

And one very lucky person can win the lot...worth almost £600.

Simply tell us on this thread which gift you are most looking forward to giving this Christmas. It can be big, small, homemade, expensive or free. After all, it's the thought that counts.

Usual Gransnet terms and conditions apply. A winner will be drawn at random at midday on Wednesday 12 December.

Have gained three more grandchildren during this past year - including two step-grandchildren - bringing my total to nine!
So, rather than buying individual presents for my son's five children, I've invested in a giant Jenga set. It's made by Joules, and should reach a built height of just under two metres!
Can't wait to see how tall they can make it.....

Love seeing the family open their presents! Especially the younger ones and the older ones who struggle financially. Christmas is a time for giving and sharing.

Am giving my 5 year-old twin granddaughters a huge storybook design Disney advent calendar, with a new book for each day of Advent: perfect to fuel their newly discovered joy of reading for themselves!

I'm hoping to hear that my gift choices have been right for people... I love buying presents and think about each one.

I'm book mad and can't think of a better way to spend any free time at Christmas. Looking forward to the house being full of family and friends. but equally love being able to escape into fiction..

This year its books for all the grandchildren as they love reading! So far I have got various box sets - diary of a wimpy kid, the worst witch, disney dark tales, pj masks, and also national geographic animal books and the dinosaur that pooped the bed! Something for all ages and will last longer than toys.

I haven't done much Christmas shopping yet, but started putting up a Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts-themed gift for my younger one, who's 8. So far got him a Hogwarts top and Newt Scamander pop head. Thinking of buying a HP diary and stationery.

I am giving my 30+ son a Storm Trooper onesie.

I am looking forward to giving some home made gifts this year, I haven’t done that in years.

I'm dropping hints all over the place but the one present I'd like to receive is the new Shardlake book, Tombland, by CJ Sansom. This was the book that many of his fans didn't think would happen, but it is great to hear that the cancer he has been living with is now in recession - long may that last! However, can I wait that long? Will I just end up buying myself a well deserved gift?

I am giving my D a rest from work and family problems.
She is coming to stay with me as her two C are going 3000 miles away to spend Christmas with their father.
It will be her first C without them so I will work hard to ensure she enjoys it.

I'm giving our younger daughter (who hosts Christmas Day for the whole family) some lovely Holly & Ivy kitchen linens. She'll be very surprised as I'm always totally practical with gifts & would never buy anything so extravagant, but I won some vouchers in a competition & decided to splurge.

The gift I am most looking forward to giving this Christmas is the parcel of hand-knitted items I have made for our new grandchild, due on Boxing Day, and a big kiss for his Mum and Dad and him. He will doubtlessly have his own schedule (as babies do) and it may end up being a belated Christmas gift but, understandably, I don't mind in the slightest.

you cant beat a good book.

ErThis Christmas I am giving everyone homemade lavendar bags. The lavender is from my garden and the little drawstring bags will be sewn by me. I know they will be appreciated as we have seen evidence of so many moths this year and my bags will perfume the cupboards beautifully - not like the old moth balls my Mother always swore by.

I'm sending my daughter (who lives in Australia) a photo book containing all the school photographs of her three children. Two of them are now in their 20s and the youngest is 13, so I had great fun getting the photos in the right date order.

My best Christmas gift this year has been given to me. My husband is free of prostrate cancer. So very happy all round.

Really looking forward to DGS opening the dinosaur finger puppet he has been wanting.

jusrum Sat 17-Nov-18 10:27:43

I will be giving my daughter a Fortnum & Mason canvas shopping bag! It looks great and I always look for my presents to create a bit of 'fun'. We can't 'live the dream' but we will have a lot of fun thinking about it !

Malakkaren Sat 17-Nov-18 10:24:32

I hope this Christmas to surprise my mother with a day off. She does so much for our family time to put her feet up and enjoy a great book.

My partner is eagerly awaiting an e-bike conversion kit, he cycles everywhere but has reached the age where he needs the occasional boost in power, I’m just hoping it arrives in time and turns out to be his long awaited legsaver ! tchgrin

From my husband, I would love a pair of Apple earbuds.

A real luxury that I couldn't justify buying, but I've dropped a couple of hints in the 'old man's ears!
