It's that time of year again (hurrah) and time for our best reads for Christmas page...great gift ideas to cater for every taste. Recommendations include fiction, non-fiction, cookery, quizzes and more.

And one very lucky person can win the lot...worth almost £600.

Simply tell us on this thread which gift you are most looking forward to giving this Christmas. It can be big, small, homemade, expensive or free. After all, it's the thought that counts.

Usual Gransnet terms and conditions apply. A winner will be drawn at random at midday on Wednesday 12 December.

My ds and ddil are having a much longed for and long saved up for wood burning stove and sitting in front of it with all their family on Christmas day. Our gift to them will be an old fashioned fireside set (tongs etc.) Will remind me of my childhood Christmas.

My youngest GD is 9. She just loves making Slime. This year we have bought her a chemistry set. My DD has got her safety glasses and a lab coat. I think we have got it spot on. Can't wait to see her face.

My best present this year will be the joy of taking my two grandsons to the Science Museum in London for the day! It will be a delight to see the wonder on their faces!

I am looking forward to giving books to my grandchildren this Christmas. I love the time we get to read together so these are gifts for me as much as them ;)

I am so looking forward to giving my daughter her moon lamp with a special message from me on it. She is the best Daughter ever and though I am poor if I was rich I would give her it all.

The present I look forward to giving is a Christmas Treat meal to my Best Fiend who has had a lot of trauma & difficult times during the past year but has seen them all off with a cheerful, uncomplaining attitude , a real star!

I have crocheted two Christmas dresses in glittery red yarn for granddaughters' Generation Dolls. Am hoping they will love them! Also making little flowers to go on hair slides for the dolls.

For me it will be the joy of knowing that my son who is living in China (3 years now) will get a great big Christmas Parcel that all the family have contributed too, so he knows he is not alone this Christmas and we are with him in thought.

I'm looking forward to giving my daughter her driving lessons (in the hope of getting some lifts at last) grin

My daughter's cat which she has had since she was 5 died 2 months ago. She is now 22 and misses him dearly. I know what she would want more than anything this Christmas is a kitten, not to replace her cat because no cat could replace him. She doesn't remember what it's like to have a kitten but would love to have a little kitten to play with.

The gift I’m most looking forward to giving this year is for my oldest friend. We were reminiscing about a lovely event from our youth and she said she wished she had a photo. Later, I recalled having one of us both ( in hot pants). I’ve got a copy in a lovely frame for her. I think she’ll cry with laughter when she opens her gift.

This is my niece's first christmas... She has just turned 6 months! I have gone a little crazy with buying her presents and I can not wait to give them to her. I know she won't be able to technically open them and will need some help however I am so happy and proud to be her auntie and spoiling her makes me feel incredible! I can't wait to spend many many many more Christmas' with her.

I'm giving my DGD a locket with a photograph of the Nanna she lost this year. The two were very close and she has a large photograph she loves but I know one she can carry with her will be very welcome.

I'm most looking forward to giving my sister a personalised painted box I made myself.

annemac101 Sun 09-Dec-18 15:13:28

I'm looking forward to giving a box set of DVDs of musicals to my friend who has just bought a DVD player. She befriended me when I moved to this area three years ago and with another few friends we go and see a theatre show nearly every month. She picks me up in her car and takes me to various clubs we attend. This is my chance to thank her. A few more pressies will go in the gift bag but it's the dvd's I'm more excited about her getting as I know how much fun they will give her.

My sister is bauble obsessed and I found a giant bauble LED snowglobe online so I'm looking forward to seeing her face when she opens her ultimate bauble!
