It's that time of year again (hurrah) and time for our best reads for Christmas page...great gift ideas to cater for every taste. Recommendations include fiction, non-fiction, cookery, quizzes and more.

And one very lucky person can win the lot...worth almost £600.

Simply tell us on this thread which gift you are most looking forward to giving this Christmas. It can be big, small, homemade, expensive or free. After all, it's the thought that counts.

Usual Gransnet terms and conditions apply. A winner will be drawn at random at midday on Wednesday 12 December.

My circumstances are such that I don't really have anyone to give a present to, where I will witness the unwrapping and the much hoped for pleasure. This gives me full reign to fantasise that I will win that damned lottery and then I will be able to give stuff that will be valued to people who so badly need it just for the dignity of having the essentials - young, elderly, refugee - a large list. It needs to be a hugely massively lottery win and after buying myself a few toys, the best financial adviser will advise me how to make the money grow so this lovely day wouldn't just have to be for one day in one year. It could change lives - use money to destroy poverty and loneliness and make a chain reaction. I'd be able to afford a hitman to remove Donald Trump from the planet and another to obliterate "austerity". It would be a brilliant Christmas smile

My best gift this year will be to give a friend the Hufflepuff items that she is longing for.

I have bought Becoming by Michelle Obama for my eldest daughter and I think she's going to love it.
For each of my grandchildren who can read - as well as a fun toy, I have bought the book '101 small ways to change the world'. We get together as a family every weekend and I am hoping that there will be much discussion around this book as the year progresses, what they have each tried to do to make the world a better place.

My 2 year old granddaughter loves the toy kitchen at playgroup. I have bought her one for Christmas, which I know, she will have fun with.

My aunt is an amazing woman and is kindly hosting Christmas dinner for us this year. She works for the NHS as a nurse in A&E and has often wondered just how much walking she does on a typical shift. As she is also enthusiastic about staying fit and healthy I have got her a Misfit Shine 2 fitness tracker - an ebay bargain! This tracker is ideal as it can be pinned on or just put in a pocket (as well as worn as a watch) Perfect for a nurse!

I am so looking forward to having all my family coming. It is not actually AT Christmas but near enough. I am giving extra little surprise presents which I am sure they will all enjoy. It will just be so lovely to all be together for the first time in many years.

My father has dementia and every day is a struggle for him and mum. He's never really been big on Christmas gifts but I'm trying to find a dark Toblerone for him. Of all the gifts he gets, the dark Toblerone is always his favourite and he squirrels it away and has a little tiny bit every couple of days.

I am looking forward to getting my sons favourite picture reframed after it was damaged with mould/damp after his flat was flooded in storm Desmond. His face will be my best present as he doesn't think I will get it done in time.

My lovely little mom has dementia now and I've spent this year looking into our family trees for and am busy typing up what I've found and want to present this to my mom in a nice album for Christmas. I did find some old photos to go with this and I am really hoping she finds this as intriguing and thoughtful as I did when doing this! Happy Christmas to my lovely little mom! xx

I am most looking forward to giving my first (and likely only) grandchild her present. It's such a wonderful first for me, the present itself isn't the important thing, but just having this darling 5 month old on my lap (she'll probably play with the wrapping anyway!)

I am most looking forward to giving my mum her gift, she has loved a beautiful pair of suede gloves for a long time now but never treats herself to anything as she much prefers to buy for others. I can't wait to see her face when she opens them!
