It's that time of year again (hurrah) and time for our best reads for Christmas page...great gift ideas to cater for every taste. Recommendations include fiction, non-fiction, cookery, quizzes and more.

And one very lucky person can win the lot...worth almost £600.

Simply tell us on this thread which gift you are most looking forward to giving this Christmas. It can be big, small, homemade, expensive or free. After all, it's the thought that counts.

Usual Gransnet terms and conditions apply. A winner will be drawn at random at midday on Wednesday 12 December.

Looking forward to including with the usual groceries, some Xmas treats to our local Foodbank. Seeing families coming out of the front door with some provisions as we hand in our donations at the back door doesn't exactly give us a 'rosy glow', but we feel we're doing a bit to help.
We have asked family and friends to do the same, rather than give us presents. ???

I’m would really like a new dressing gown for Christmas, but I don’t need to worry if I don’t get one as I’ve got one for my husband for Christmas so I can borrow his.

I am looking forward to having all my family here and enjoying Christmas Day together, children, grandchildren and dogs! It will be chaotic and laughter filled and also, as usual, my best Christmas present

I am looking forward to seeing my grandson open his new football because he really wants a proper one! I take him to a field near my home to play football together and he tells me that I need to run not walk! I have to tell him that this is my running which amuses him!

I am looking forward to giving time and being able to nurture my visitors, young and old, so that they leave feeling loved, listened to and cherished.

My 7 year old GS recently discovered pool during a holiday in the summer. Every time he sees a pool table, he is constantly asking his Dad if he can play and normally the answer is no because usually adults are playing. I would love to be able to get him a small pool table which he can play whenever he likes. Just to see his little face would be fantastic!

I would like to be in my own house. We have spent the last year in turmoil selling our previous house, losing buyers etc, it has been a real roller coaster! We are currently renting whilst our new sale goes through and that is taking forever too with unforeseen problems right and left. I just want to be settled for Christmas.

I have been building up an assortment of goodies and essentials to make up a hamper for my Daughter and my four year old Grandson. They are struggling financially and I know they will love it.

My greatest gift will be time spent with my partner, whether it's just sitting in comfortable silence reading, or chatting and putting the world right, it's a gift given and received that cannot be matched.

I'm looking forward to watching the delight on my 15mth old granddaughters face as she opens her present - some lift out colourful wooden jigsaws. The first Christmas she will be aware of something special happening. The eyes and delight of a small child smile

I am most looking forward to seeing my son open the book Auggie and Me. He has read Wonder, watched the movie, and has asked for them for Christmas. He has no idea that the second Wonder book exists...he is going to be soooooo excited.

I'm getting my husband a new chain for his St. Christopher. Yet again he has broken the chain! I'm getting a slightly longer one so it goes easily over his head. It was the first present I bought him nearly 33 years ago, so I'm sure he will love it.

The little black kitten who has just adopted us (out of nowhere) is the best gift I could imagine. He's even won my husband round and is a delightful little furball.
