It's that time of year again (hurrah) and time for our best reads for Christmas page...great gift ideas to cater for every taste. Recommendations include fiction, non-fiction, cookery, quizzes and more.

And one very lucky person can win the lot...worth almost £600.

Simply tell us on this thread which gift you are most looking forward to giving this Christmas. It can be big, small, homemade, expensive or free. After all, it's the thought that counts.

Usual Gransnet terms and conditions apply. A winner will be drawn at random at midday on Wednesday 12 December.

I am really looking forward to the present I get from my only grandchild (age6) as she is coming from Australia for her first Christmas here in the UK. It will brighten up what has been a bad year for us.

I'm not buying any presents this year but I am giving my time - so I'm going carol-singing round local nursing homes.

I am hoping that the food, chocolates and toys we give out at Christmas from the food bank will at least help to make those families, couples and single people feel a little better about the world they live in.

My special gift was be to take part in the Rucksack appeal for our local Homeless Charity - Wellspring ,Stockport. Check it out. My daughter and I completed 1 rucksack each and our friends collected enough for several more. Christmas is the Gift that keeps on Giving (smile)

My best present is visiting my son and wife in Tennessee for Christmas. Haven’t seen them for over a year and haven’t spent Christmas with them for last 4 years. So excited.

I am looking forward winning competitions during Christmas time. Every day from the 1st of December I am opening my emails in anticipation. Last year I won a £ 100.00 voucher from a well known supermarket! What is this year going to bring me? wink

I'm looking forward to giving my partner a hand mixer this Christmas so he can make more of his wonderful meringues. I do have other less self-centered surprises for him, too, in case I sound like a big meany.

For Christmas I am fulfilling a wish that my mother had before she died. She had inherited some money and wished to take her family on holiday. Unfortunately she was too frail to do this so I am using the money I inherited from her to take my son's and grandchildren away.

After losing my mum and a house move, my best gift to myself and lovely husband is to be still, rest and have peace and love.

Can’t wait to see Miss T’s face when she sees her sparkly sequin dress I found in a charity shop. She’ll love it, the charity benefitted & I could afford it! Triple benefit. Winning the books would make it a 4fold win ?

I am looking forward to giving my youngest Granddaughter a Gold fish tank & a few bits to go in it as she has had a bad year being diagnosed with Olliers disease, which most people have never heard of. So up to London to GOSH for appointments & returning to soothing Gold fish.

I'm giving my niece a certain quiz game - hopefully we all get to play it at twixmas when we all meet up. The best bit of Christmas for me is spending time with family, especially with good old-fashioned board games.

Giving my Great Niece a wonderful book - I Am The Seed That Grew The Tree. The whole family will be able to enjoy this "book for life", including new addition to the family due next April.

The thing I'm most looking forward to is having 2 weeks off with my partner Hillary, we've had an awful end to the year with her Mummy dying suddenly in September and my Father dying suddenly in October. We are having to trawl thru red tape for both including an inquest for my father and I'm just looking forward to getting her here (we don't live together) for 2 weeks and shutting the door and having some very valuable down time with our 3 indoor free range guinea pigs. We are obviously both not looking forward to Christmas but will get thru it together with love and faith and lots of guinea pig cuddles.
Ive included a photo i made them pose for last year - the 3 wise pigs!(L to R) - Lola, Miss Daisy & Poppy
Simple pleasures mean so much.
God Bless

I don't know what the best present will be, but it will be the one bought with love and care and it will be a surprise!

dorrieoxles1 Wed 05-Dec-18 10:52:06

All I would like for Christmas is family happiness. My granddaughter hasn’t spoken to me for more than 2 years. I don’t know why. It would be lovely for the rift to be healed.
