Me and my sister playing hop scotch with all the other children who lived on our close. We would draw the squares right outside our house on the pavement. We searched for smooth, palm sized stones to slide. We played for hours. My children would have no idea what hopscotch is and it’s such a shame. Happy memories x

I lived on a farm and I just loved being outdoors - but the best pastime was when Mum asked us to pick peas from the vegetable garden for tea. We ate at least as many as got back to the kitchen!!

I loved throwing tennis balls at the wall, can't remember if the game had a name, but I used to do it for hours.

Riding my scooter at about 100 miles an hour round the block. It seemed that fast to me. I had a plastic wild west type flask full of water to keep me going. It scared all the neighbours who were driving very slowly and sedately out of their driveways with their cars.

I used to love playing on the swing in our garden, it was set low so I always felt safe and it was placed at the end of the garden surrounded by plants taller than myself so it felt very magical, like playing in a wood.

Going for walks in the bush, in Zambia (Northern Rhodesia), with my parents and twin. We learnt how to respect wildlife and learnt about different creatures - great and small.

Putting up our uncle’s old army tent and getting friends round to sleep in our garden. Cousins, school friends - over the summer they’d all join us in the musty den. During the day we’d play and then have snacks in there when we were hot and tired. At night Mum let us take soup in a Thermos for a midnight feast. The one night I remember we had chicken noodle soup. I was pouring into the mugs and of course, the first ones were only liquid then all the noodles rushed out, overflowing into our sleeping bags. We picked out as many as we could, but the memory of climbing in and feeling those cold, squishy noodles on my legs remains!

Playing in the sandpit and using the swing were early favourites. Later, I loved to 'help' Dad in the garden.

Going on Sunday summer picnics with my Mum, Dad, Nan, Grandad and 2 younger brothers. We used to set up in a field and spend the whole day, playing cricket, football, etc and enjoying a lovely picnic.

French Skipping - a circular band of elastic held first around the ankles by 2 people about 4 feet apart. The skipper then goes through a series of moves - into the middle, then straddling then out again - without touching the elastic then progressing to catching the first elastic on her feet and jumping over the 2nd one and then escaping from the crossed elastic and landing in the middle (I think this was called cats cradle). You them progressed to do all the moves again at calf level, knee level, thigh level etc

I used to love collecting flower petals and mixing them with water in little bottles to make 'perfume'. I am sure Mum must have thrown away tons of stagnant water and rotting foliage when I forgot all about my handiwork!
