If you're after ideas for what to read this summer, look no further than our round-up of the best summer reads for 2019.

One very lucky person can win all the books featured on the page - worth over £600.

To enter, simply tell us your favourite female character from a book (old or new and from any genre).

I love many female characters but am currently working my way through the Agatha Raisin book collection (I’m on the witch of wykhadden!) and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with her!

It always used to be Heidi, probably because I had a rose-tinted view of her life on the mountain, out in the fresh air all day and eating huge hunks of bread and cheese.

But I have a recent new hero - Asta from Sally Magnusson's book, The Sealwoman's Gift. Kidnapped by Barbary pirates from her home in Iceland in 1627, and taken to a completely new life in Algiers. She's a strong, capable woman, who adapts to her new circumstances without once losing her sense of justice and fighting spirit, not to mention her fierce love for her family.

Definitely George from The Famous Five books. She wasn't afraid to show her masculine characteristics and that she was 'one of the boys' in an era that was so unaccepting of differences in perceived gender roles. A true inspiration, and it just shows that Enid Blyton was way ahead of her time.
