I loved The Ugly Duckling because it had such a happy ending. I used to go to the local park with mum and dad to visit the ducks very often and they were my favourites. Still love this story even today.
Does The Secret Garden count? I grew up in an old farm cottage with a large garden and used to go on adventures to try and find my very own secret garden.
Cinderella, what little girl could resist the story which starts off horrible and then ends with everybody happy (apart from the 2 ugly sisters). On another matter, my Dad used to say he would take me to the pictures to see The Wizard of Oz, he was fascinated that the black and white film changed into colour part way through, must be something in the genes as my granddaughter also loves the film.
The Little Mermaid. I have always been fascinated by the ocean so her story stood out. I admire Ariel's ability to recognize what she wants, and her courage to change her circumstances, no matter how daunting the consequences.
I loved the Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Adventure, romance, castles, forests and of course love. What more could you ask from a story! Especially from a very daydreamy child. I loved the story especially at Christmas!
The story about the stone soup. I loved that someone could just use their wits to get something, and that actually everyone comes together to enjoy lovely soup at the end!
Rapunzel was my favourite. I loved the idea of her hair being so beautiful and so long that a Prince could climb up on it rescue her. The Brothers Grimm were supremely talented fairytale writers.
