I loved Jack and the Beanstalk!! My parents were hardworking, but we had little money, and I always dreamt that one day I would grow a beanstalk and grab the golden egg, escape the giant, and make us all rich! Sadly I never grew my beanstalk high enough!!

My favourite fairy tale growing up was Chicken Liken. It showed me to have courage even if I thought the sky was falling down.

Dick Whittington because I could identify with it as we often made the journey from Kent to London to visit grandparents. I'd imagine myself as Dick striding along the A2 with my belongings tied up in a spotted handkerchief and my (rather fat and lazy) cat jauntily trotting alongside me as I headed off to make my fortune. Didn't actually know what "fortune" meant, but thought it might be something to do with DIY or handicrafts!

Black beauty - i cried when ginger died

I loved Rumplestiltskin,it was the horrible little man who had imprisoned her and every day would challenge her to guess his name. It's good over evil and she did find out his name and was free once more x

Rapunzel as I was trying to grow my hair to be as long as hers !!

Kazzy Wed 02-Oct-19 07:28:02

I had so many stories I loved while growing up but I think if I had to choose I would say Sleeping Beauty

Lesevans6 Wed 02-Oct-19 07:12:29

Cinderella, This was an age when the bad people Lost and the Good people Won, not like today.

sodapop125 Wed 02-Oct-19 01:25:23

The princess and the pea, I had a lumpy mattress as a child and my dad use to say it only felt lumpy because I was a princess like the one in the story oh happy memories

CrazyGranny60 Wed 02-Oct-19 00:39:37

Cinderella, because we didn't have much growing up, but I did have a Cinderella Ladybird book, and Santa got me a watch and ornament of her, and I adored them. They were the most special things I had growing up. I also felt like cinderella a lot of the time too as even though I was the youngest, being the girl I seemed to get saddled with all the cleaning!

Rumpelstiltskin. I think I just loved saying that name as I’d never heard anything like it before. When we got a dog I wanted to call him that but wasn’t allowed to!

Cinderella because I believed my dream would come true and I would marry a prince but I married a frog instead.

My favourite was the ugly duckling because I used to feel so sorry for the duckling & it made me feel better because he was worse off than me & then he eventually finds happiness as he is a swan & everything works out well in the end for him. It is nice to have hope at times during one's life when both young and older.

The Emperor's New Clothes, this tale made me giggle so much as a child.

ClassyLady23 Tue 01-Oct-19 22:25:41

The elves and the shoe maker. I always loved the way the story ended. I would have loved that magical elves would come to our house and help my mum.

freesia Tue 01-Oct-19 22:09:48

The three little pigs...it brings back memories of my lovely dad telling the story with the voices of the pigs and the wolf!

SharonMS Tue 01-Oct-19 21:59:52

My favourite fairytale was the Elves and the Shoemaker. I loved it because I liked the idea that at night the elves would get to work in our house and it often seemed to happy - pies would be baked and school uniform fixed! (My mum was very busy clearly!)

keffie Tue 01-Oct-19 21:44:24

Snow white and the seven dwarfs! Just cos I love Snow White had all these quirky characters with her to help her defeat the nasty queen. Tells us so much about life has an adult

Hazeleliz Tue 01-Oct-19 21:31:54

My favourite fairy tale The Three Little Pigs because it shows that a bit of hard work and cunning can beat bad things.

Jack & the Beanstalk, with the goose that laid the golden egg. We used to keep chickens in the early 50s,and it was my job to look after them, and collect the eggs everyday. As they were free to roam around the yard you would often find eggs in the grass or under bushes etc.Only one day guess what I found, but bear in mind I was only about 4 or 5 years at the time, with a vivid imagination, a Golden egg under the bushes. In my haste to run back & show mum what I had found,I left the gate open,& the chickens took this opportunity to stroll out & devour the lettuces & peas on the vegetable plot.Back to the golden egg,mum just smiled & said lucky you, keep it & you will never go broke. Fast forward 65 years I still have the egg, only some of the golden paint has worn away, showing the China egg underneath.Yes dad had painted a china laying egg golden.I was completely & utterly fooled.

Angell74 Tue 01-Oct-19 21:24:00

My Mum used to tell a version of Little Red Riding Hood where she killed the wolf herself with an axe. I liked that story best - faint hearted princesses were never my thing.

imacmum Tue 01-Oct-19 21:15:22

The Princess and the Goblin, it was like nothing I’d ever read before

foxxylady Tue 01-Oct-19 21:06:22

Pinochio as when he didnt tell the truth his nose grew this was a sure way to catch him out

Revolucion Tue 01-Oct-19 20:54:25

Rumplestiltskin has it all
Curse on the baby
Insane challenges
A spinning wheel
Unimaginable pain of the pricked finger
A ridiculously hard riddle
Horrifying

The Tinderbox.
I loved the way a poor soldier was able to improve his life through the striking of the tinderbox. Finding true love and saving his life. I was a bit scared by the three dogs with their big eyes, but they seemed to be the soldier's friends. Magical. I wanted a tinderbox, even though I wasn't too sure what one was, at my young age.
