Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I remember my Dad set up a speaker in my bedroom and played a record downstairs on the record player . I went off to sleep listening to this

Goldilocks and the three bears I was always on the look out for bears when we had our sunday afternoon walk around the woods close to where we lived ???

Sleeping Beauty

Twopence Sun 22-Sept-19 13:38:01

"The Constant Tin Soldier" by Hans Christian Andersen, as told my my late father. I would hang on to his every word and it was so sad.

Sleeping Beauty - I’ve spent most of my life dreaming of the day my Prince will come and kiss me to wake me up to a life that’s magical and full of beauty and love....meantime I’ll struggle through with the never ending cycle of work, bills and the mundane!!!

I loved Peter Pan as a child and envied the freedom that he and the List Boys had.

Stmiddy Sun 22-Sept-19 12:25:11

The Princess and the Pea. I have no idea how many times as a child that I put a pea under my mattress to see if it kept me awake. It never did!

toscalily Sun 22-Sept-19 12:06:31

Has to be Cinderella, who wouldn't want to ride in a Pumpkin coach and she found her prince despite two nasty sisters.

Miche1 Sun 22-Sept-19 12:06:26

It would have to be Hansel and Gretel. A story with beautiful imagery, and great life lessons to be learned. Always remember dreaming of the house of sweets! Lovely memories.

Jenngas Sun 22-Sept-19 11:49:04

Snow White very time! Loved Dopey so much, always wanted to help him!

Teddy111 Sun 22-Sept-19 11:48:28

Peter Pan was my favourite,to be actually flying with Tinkerbell,Wow.
The Billy Goats Gruff terrified me,I had to look under my bed to make sure the troll wasn't there.

Sleeping Beauty. I loved the Ladybird book which told this story. I loved the clothes, especially her wedding dress which I always would have liked, if I'd ever got married - I haven't! Not being invited to the christening resonated with me and still does - it's horrible not being invited to events when you think you should be! Just the idea of being left out - it's hurtful, so I can understand the bad fairy too, not that Sleeping Beauty deserved to die or even sleep for so long! Loved the idea of her parents looking for all the spindles and spinning wheels in the palace and throwing them out! I also loved the drama of the prince cutting through thorns to get to her - only one managed it! He then awakens her from her long sleep and the whole palace too which is covered in cobwebs! I think this story has everything, lots of drama, lots of different characters and, of course, a happy ending!

The Gingerbread Man.
I used to curl up on my Daddy's knee while he told me lots of stories, he used to adapt them all to fit in with people we knew.
The GBM lived in my grandma's chimney but she didn't know until it got blocked and he flew out with the sweep's brush and landed on the railway line. Even when I got a bit too old for fairy stories I'd try to look up the chimney and ask to be lifted up on the bridge to look for the gingerbread man but he was long gone.

hitchengillian Sun 22-Sept-19 10:44:23

Hansel and Gretel because it was an enchanting but scary story

Beauty and the Beast - because love conquers all ?

littlemonkeyz Sun 22-Sept-19 08:44:53

My favourite story was Hansel and Gretel. The truth is that I loved the idea of a house made from sweets, I still have vivid pictures of that in my mind!

yd1556 Sun 22-Sept-19 06:41:49

The gingerbread house in Hansel and Gretel always fascinated me. Being entirely practical as a child (aka no imagination!) I could never understand how it would stand up to bad weather. Surely the wind and rain would have destroyed it?

I liked the story of Le Petit Poucet (French), whose name is somewhat equivalent to Tom Thumb, but whose story might be different from the English version, I'm not sure. I liked the fact that he could find his way back home through the forest thanks to the little white stones he had cleverly dropped along the way. I felt it was a practical tip which might come in handy some day. (It hasn't yet.)

Carado Sat 21-Sept-19 21:45:56

Goldilocks and the Three Bears - because my teddy bear was my favourite toy and porage my favourite breakfast.

Quercus Sat 21-Sept-19 20:31:47

The Princess and the pea, because I liked the idea of a huge pile of mattresses even though the idea of feeling a pea through them seemed far fetched.

Strawberry Sat 21-Sept-19 19:17:25

Cinderella. She was beautiful inside and out and the prince recognised that and loved her regardless.

Vasilisa9 Sat 21-Sept-19 17:57:27

Peter Pan, because I loved how the children could fly, and because I wanted to be a fairy like Tinkerbell! ✨

luckycat Sat 21-Sept-19 17:57:13

The emperors new clothes. As an adult I realise it describes many pompous silly men!
