I loved The Town mouse and the Country mouse by Enid Blyton, the illustrations captured my imagination and dreamt of mice living in clothes in little houses

Rumpelstiltskin. It was quite a scary story, but I think I just liked saying the name.

galadrial Thu 10-Oct-19 13:05:12

For me it has to be "The Snow Queen", by Hans Christian Andersen, I had it in a big book with all his other tales and I don't know how many times my Mum read it to me, but each time I saw the illustrations, I always manages to spot something else, it was magical.

I don't remember any from childhood,I read voraciously, 3 books a night even as young as 6/7. However I remember when my own daughter was young how much we enjoyed the films "Land before Time" and the circle of life they talked about

Has to be Hansel and Gretel. I loved the story being told at primary school. Then in high school I learnt the songs from the opera - having seen several productions, I still think it is the best fairy tale ever!

The Three Little Pigs....the big bad wolf was a bit scary but it was great when he got his comeuppance and landed in the cooking pot!

My favourite fairytale is Hansel and Gretel, simply because I always wanted a brother to have adventures with.

Lucycon Thu 10-Oct-19 09:59:18

It has to be Peter pan, I love the idea of never growing up and its certainly been something me and my husband have done with our children.... We are always the biggest kids!

emziemay Thu 10-Oct-19 09:33:01

Princess and the Pea - I am sure I used to make my mum read this to me every night!

cjh123 Thu 10-Oct-19 09:15:02

Little Red Riding Hood was my favourite. It has made me love red all of my life and its such a beautiful story of how a child loved to visit her gran and how she outwits the wolf.

Ottodog Thu 10-Oct-19 08:56:53

Beauty and the Beast. My mother (who was French) read it to me and then showed me the wonderful French film version directed by Jean Cocteau. I was frightened and fascinated by this wonderful piece of cinematography. It was in black and white (that added to the atmosphere) and I particularly liked the part when Beauty entered Beast's castle and the candelabra (which were actually human arms holding candle sticks) lit for her as she went past them, and moved with her.

kaydeed Thu 10-Oct-19 08:30:24

My favourite was Cinderella It created such wonderful images and I loved the idea of glass shoes. I used to drive my mum mad keep asking for a pair.
