Hansel and Gretel, for the sheer ingenuity shown and the dramatic twists of fate

Stells Fri 13-Sept-19 22:20:02

Cinderella for sure cause it's every little girls dream .

The twelve dancing princesses has always been my favourite. To dance all night where the trees are jewelled, and it is the youngest princess who gets the handsome prince, not the oldest. Music to my ears!!

Kittyme1 Fri 13-Sept-19 22:09:56

The Elves and the Shoemaker, loved that the Elves visited at night and made the shoes.

Cinderella loved it the lovely dress at the end got me every time! Oh how I wanted to be her and fit in that slipper! I didn’t like the stepmother bit as I had one and didn’t like the idea of the one in the story! But I did want to go to the ball and dance in that dress!

The Emperor's new clothes. There are so many situations where I have wondered if everyone is thinking the same thing but no one wants to say anything - think modern art, think airy fairy child rearing ideas, think politicians........need I say more!

The Gingerbreadman. It was the first story I could read for myself. No more See Rover Run. I could really read and it was a real story worth the work. Haven't stopped since.

Ah, the memories are flooding back! I had a beautifully illustrated book of Hans Christian Andersen stories given to me by a special aunt...

The Little Match Girl was my favourite. I desperately wanted to save her!

Wouldn't it be amazing to be able to travel back for an hour or so to experience the magical intensity of a story as a child again.

I remember getting a very beautiful version of The Snow Queen from the local library, and being fascinated, and scared, by the story of Gerda and her friend Kai, who was stolen away. It was so intricate, with so many twists and turns. But most of all I loved the illustrations of the Snow Queen in her velvets and furs, her beautiful white sleigh and the ice palace. And, thank goodness, the happy ending!

Beauty and the beast, I was always amazed by the power of love. Still love the story today ?

bikergran Fri 13-Sept-19 20:46:17

Snow White and the 7 dwarfs, I think the dwarfs all had their own little personalities.

Doodle Fri 13-Sept-19 20:27:12

Rumpelstiltskin as I’ve always liked a puzzle.

Margo29 Fri 13-Sept-19 20:16:10

I've always loved Cinderella - my oldest sister took me to see the pantomime at the theatre when I was about 7 and I thought it was magical.

hellymart Fri 13-Sept-19 19:42:51

Red Riding Hood was my favourite. It was so scary!

Cherrytree59 Fri 13-Sept-19 19:04:11

The Elves and the Shoemaker.

I had a collection of ladybird books but by far my favourite was the Elves and the Shoemaker.
The book illustrations depicting the story were absolutely beautiful, almost like mini paintings.

My daughter also enjoyed the fairy tale and
loved my ladybird copy.
Must check the loft

Cinderella was my favourite - rags to riches story

mikeh31 Fri 13-Sept-19 18:39:47

Hansel and Gretel - it was terrifying but had a good message.

Tiberius Fri 13-Sept-19 18:34:11

The Ugly Duckling

Abuelamia Fri 13-Sept-19 18:33:18

The Ugly Duckling, The story, the song and the message it gives. Simple but special.

Noddy30 Fri 13-Sept-19 18:12:42

Hansel and Gretel was my favourite. I can't remember how many times I read it.

JessK Fri 13-Sept-19 17:44:44

Hansel and Gretel because it was a close relationship between brother and sister that won the day. It is a charming story and I always imagined the dark wood that frightened the pair. It was scarey but good came out on top.

Moocow Fri 13-Sept-19 17:43:10

Cinderella! I loved how she got what she deserved in the end but above all I absolutely loved her gowns and when I read the book myself I could hardly contain my excitement to read each page without rushing through to the big reveal of her final gown all gold and silver along with her dainty slippers. Ahhhhh the memory grin

Grannyknot Fri 13-Sept-19 17:11:30

Rumplestiltskin for me. Terrifying as he was! grin

pb52 Fri 13-Sept-19 17:09:38

The Billy Goats Gruff.
Just the right mix of wonder, apprehension and imagination.
