I would take my grandchildren to Pembrokeshire and enjoy a holiday by the coast, enjoying the same beach holiday that I used to have in the 1960’s. Playing on the beach, building sandcastle forts, flying a kite and just running in and out of the sea to cool off. I would even take them to a beer garden in the evening as a treat so as they could have a juice and some crisps the same as I used to have.

I would take them to Burma for a number of reasons. Firstly it is part of their ancestry and they are one eighth Burmese. Secondly, it is not on the popular tourist trail so it will be a real adventure for them.

I'd like to hire out a large property, preferably with a pool and invite all the cousins down so we can have a proper family get-together.

It would be anywhere my daughters hold dear to them so they can share family memories with my grandchildren as we walk hand in hand through the past. For me, one of the most rewarding aspects of being a grandparent is hearing the way in which my daughters enthusiastically and fondly recount their childhood memories to my grandchildren. They have a much rosier version of our social history than mine as much of that time I felt I was just coping whilst working and could/should have done better.

In the summer I dug deep into my savings to take my 2 daughters and 2 grandchildren to Majorca and we stayed close to the town where we holidayed every year when they were young. It was precious time. As we retraced our steps, they remembered events and places I had forgotten, it allowed us all to share memories of times there and stories about their late father. We cried a little but laughed a lot and all learned things about each other by recounting the past. Making memories together has been my priority since losing my husband, better to leave positive memories than possessions.

On our dream list are the Caribbean islands where my daughters spent time working before settling down. They desperately want my grandchildren to witness the white sand and blue sea, the sounds and aromas of life before kids.

I have 9 grandchildren and they all love Christmas so it would have to be Lapland to see Santa. To see their little faces light up and the magic in their eyes would be priceless. Then we could stay in a log cabin in the snow and all tuck up in our PJ's together and drink hot chocolate and sing carols around the Christmas tree. A dream made in heaven.
