I would take my grand daughter to Fairy Dell in Teesdale, at least four times a year.
Spring to see the beauty of the snowdrops, the new buds on the hundreds of trees, of snow on the surrounding hills and the busy, babbling brook running throughout.
Summer to picnic by the brook then search and identify from our reference book anything that lives beneath the mossy stones.
Autumn to pick hazel nuts, sloes, brambles, conkers and to see the beauty of the autumnal colours of the trees.
Winter to see the sparkly wonderland of snow, ice and partly frozen brook, with squirrels scampering about, stoats, rabbits and other animals living in the bleak winter up there.
Of course, during these four trips we will be on the lookout for any fairies said to be living in the Dell.
No aeroplanes involved. An half hour car journey. It has to be a car journey as there is no public transport to where we would go, it is well off the beaten track. (I cannot ride a bike, if I could, I would.)
