my best friend and i couldnt afford skatebords , so we built our own from ancient roller skates that we found in the shed.
it weighed an absolute tonne, but was unstoppable once you got it going!! the cornering was fantastic and it was a demon on down hill sections.
more of a gokart i suppose thinking about it now. but we had loads of fun!!

Basic colouring was my favourite thing to do and kept me occupied for hours

Playing games of Monopoly that went on for days in the Christmas holidays with my siblings. Monopoly kept us entertained for days and days.

Oh so many! There was a gang of about 20 of us in my street. We played hide and seek, Sardines ( a kind of Hide and seek in reverse where one person hid and everybody went seeking and they stayed with the original hider until everyone squashed together like sardines. British Bulldog, tag, Money played with one tennis racket and a tennis ball. the person (it) with the racket and ball called out an amount of money and who ever caught the ball added that amount up to say £5.00 and the person who collected the money 1st became 'it'. the usual skipping games, hopscotch, two ballie , American skippies cowboys and indian's where the girls were against the boys. However the most fun was when we played 'Truth Dare will or Force Kiss cuddle command or torture!' We got into all sorts of scrapes like knocking on someones door and asking for a slice of bread or tying thread to someones door knocker and hiding behind an object when the resident went to open the door. thinking back we were a bit naughty but it was all meant as harmless fun!

I actually loved playing with my matchbox cars and my grandmothers Bagatel (sp?)

I remember whip and tops - had great fun chalking designs on the top and seeing who could keep theirs going longest. This was in the good old days when children played out on the street and you had to be careful the tops didnt go down the cracks between the flags

I loved creating complex patterns and pictures with my Spirograph set x

I remember swapping scraps with my friends at school. Scraps were lovely shiny paper pictures which were kept in an old book. Don't know if this was just a Scottish thing. We also played jacks but ours were small blocks of wood we called it chuckles.

I loved Spirograph when I was young. It was something that would entertain me for hours. It still does as I bought one for my grandchildren.

The ability to wander around our local park, having adventures with our friends with our parents only having a dim idea of where we were!

I used to love go out on my bike with my friends, we used to cycle for miles, all down the 'back lanes' and across fields.

Marbles in the street outside our house, with the neighbouring kids. Under the flowering cherry (that the council had to chop down for no good reason later). Clearies, cats eyes, steelies, dobbers .. still get very excited thinking of that little plastic net bag they clonked about in.

French Cricket with my two older brothers, in my Nan's back yard, which had high walls, so we 'hardly' ever 'lost' the ball.
We used a rectangular piece of wood for the bat, cant remember what type of ball, although it was small.
Taught my grandchildren this game and we always play it at the park....memories...old and new x

Playing in the field behind our garden, especially when it had been mown and hay bales hadn’t yet been collected. I’d play with my neighbour friends or on my own. Those were the days when children weren’t supervised by adults. Such freedom.

Snakes & Ladders when I was very small them graduated to Monopoly - I'm banned from playing by the family now.

I have a couple that I used to love doing as a kid, neither of which was looked on favourably by certain parties

Sledging down the old coal slag heaps was a favourite that the old NCB didn't like (on the rare occasions when they actually spotted us doing it)

The other main one was a summer activity ... picking wild fruit (of which there was plenty), and for a couple of weeks each year, following the trucks from the local farms (Rhubarb Triangle) and picking up the fruit that dropped out of the back ... learned how to make crumbles and pies the first year I did that
