I remember making a giant snowman! Painstakingly tearing up tissue and newspaper and sticking layer after layer on a cardboard cut out in the shape of a snowman. We made his face out of velvet, black eyes, a s stuffed orange velvet nose and bright red lips. It took ages but I was so proud of it and Fred came out every Christmas for many years after. (Smile)

Playing with my sylvanian families collection. We used to have a fake christmas tree and i used to make a home for my fox family under the tree.I had a different room for each segment of the tree base which was split into four.I think my parents wondered why i spent half my time with my head stuck under the christmas tree.

Sunday evenings trying to tape the top 40 without any voice over. A impossible task.

Fuzzy Felts, which were felt silhouettes that could be attached to a fuzzy board to make (quite elaborate) pictures. They fed my (vivid) imagination beautifully.

I always loved playing skipping with my friends. We even played it when it was raining much to our mum's annoyance when we brought in skipping ropes soaking wet. Nobody plays skipping outside anymore.

I used to love to play with a wooden farmyard at my infant school! We were given some maths tasks to complete and when you had got them all correct and only then would the teacher allow us to choose a toy from the cupboard to play with and if anyone got to choose before me I would be holding my braeth that they didn't choose my farmyard!

My dad was an artist and my brother, sister and I did all sorts of amazing activities with him, but my favourite was always potato printing! It was so simple, but he helped us to create some fantastic pictures using that very humble vegetable!

Going swimming. Dad always bought a yearly pass for us on our birthdays and we often managed to go swimming twice a day, leaving at 7am to be there when the baths opened then going on to school and going back when school finished. Loved it!

Swinging in a tractor tyre from a rope swung over a tree across a bank of daffodils and being terrified and excited in equal measure.

I loved playing cards with my nan when I was younger. My sister and I used to like playing board games, but never Monopoly as it took so long to play we got bored.

I have kept so many pictures and paintings, valentine and mothers day cards, from when the children went to nursery all those years ago, im so sentimental, actually this has given me the idea to pull them out, and see if i could frame a few, to make me smile......

Riding my bike up a nearby country lane and collecting blackberries (getting discoloured fingers into the bargain) to make jam with my mother.

Roller skates with ball bearings in the wheels. I feel sure the skates weighed more than me but the excitement of flying like the wind along the pavements and roads (next to no cars in the 50s where we lived).

Building dens out in the garden with old sheets and sticks. Loved it!

silverlining48 Tue 26-Nov-19 13:02:42

My 50s childhood was traumatic so games allowed me to get away from home for a while. We children built dens in the woods at the top of the road, using milk crates as tables, flowers fron the woods in jars on the table and little logs as seats. Took dolls or teddies and made beds out of leaves and old net curtains put on the bushes, spending hours there playing houses. Never had a bike but my friend had roller skates so we each had one and hurtled down the hill in her road. Luckily little traffic in those days.
Sad and difficult times to remember but these games made me happy, if only fir a while.
